Right at 500, cow elk about 10 years ago on an antlerless hunt in Oregon on the last day of the season..

My hunting buddy bet me a $100 I couldn't hit in the head.  I had to take the bet.  He double dared me.  :chuckle:

Never again though.  Not worth wingin it.

The deer was just a bit further than the rock I ranged at 548 yards. What I find as funny are the folks who poo poo on "long shots" who don't have a rangefinder. When I range places they shoot at deer they are lobbing led much further than 500 yards. I know lots of people who shoot 800-900 yards. Ethics are perception which vary with each individual. I told a guy just today I shot my elk at 45 yards in his bed. He told me that wasn't sporting :dunno: I thought it was pretty cool. Especially with my bow.

I have heard that argument (shooting a deer in his bed is not "sporting") before.  I can't understand it.  As long as you can make the shot (they're hard to hit bedded), I don't see how it is any less "sporting" than any other stalk where you take your deer/elk/bear/etc.. and it is unaware of your presence.  I should have shot my Montana buck this year in his bed, but I wasn't positive which buck I was looking at.  If I had shot him in his bed, I could have had a broadside, still shot.  Instead, I kept watching until a doe busted me and I had to take a running (trotting actually) shot at 310 yards.
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Not anymore that was 20 years ago. Now I'm shooting 70#

2 weeks after that i shot a bear over bait in a treestand at 20 yds with the same bow. Arrow went thru scapula, the ribs and then went thru the 55 gal barrel, also couldn't shoot for a year as I pulled a shoulder ligament. Took me several years to get up to 70# again. Still have the bow if anyone wants to buy it.

Edited to change years, Times flies!!!!
