Longest kill shot on deer?
« on: November 24, 2009, 10:04:46 PM »
Just wondering. I know that some long range hunters are looked on by some as being unethical. This poll is just about what you have personally been exposed to as long range shooting is concerned.
I personally wittneses a 454YD shot that was made on a whitetail this year. One shot. One dead deer. Weapon was a Sako TRGS chambered in 7.82 Lazzeroni Warbird. Range finder used was a Leica.

I was hoping that Antelope counted. I took 3 antelope in Montana this year the shortest was at 300 and the longest was at 650 :yike:

I was shooting a 257 weatherby Mag with custom handloads
Love that gun  :bfg:

My deer this year. 580 yards. 1 shot from the Remington Sendero in .300RUM and he was down. Rangefinder was a Leica 1200 and the scope was a Zeiss with turrets. Shooting handloaded 208gr A-Maxs.

Have shot several in the 300 to 350 range, but nothing farther.  JohnnyTDF shot a muley buck a few years ago at just a bit under 500 yds, but I wasn't there to witness it (his dad did).
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Deer, 677yds.  If you have the right equipment, know how, and experience practicing, you can do it easily.

I finished one at 220 this year but my longest shot on a deer was 176. 185 for bear, 265 for an antelope about 450 for a coyote.

I shot a deer one time so far away that I had to lay on my back and shoot almost straight up, just a wee bit east, using my 300 mag, the bullet went up so far that the earth turned before it fell, gaining velocity due to gravity. :)
hit the deer right on top o the head, knocked it out.. :chuckle:

well last year my girlfriend took a deer at 250yards...at least thats what i guess it at.
this year i got to actually range it. and it was 330yards. man was i off with my guess  :chuckle: it was a one shot kill so i cant complain.

my longest shot was 100ish yards with open sights, second longest was 70ish yards with open sight.
i have took a shot at a deer around 300 yards, shot right over his back. watched the bullet hit the dirt bank. that deer was clueless as he walked away.

my mom is an exellent shot. seen her take alot of deer around 300yards with her remington 722 in 257bob and 4x scope sighted in 2" high at 100yards. i would hate to see her shoot with some better optics on that rifle.

Just remember folks, it is my right to proclaim to the world how far is "ethical." I also have bestowed the power upon myself, what weapons, as well as caliber sizes are "ethical." You can also contact me for what seasons are ethical and how far away from the nearest road you must be. I will do all of this as a public service for the mere price of $1000.00 dollars per species and or season. I do not take checks, credit cards, cash or paypal for this service.

A 500 plus yard shot at a trotting broadside deer, offhand, no rest.  Put two in him in the boiling room about 1 inch apart.  Thinking back I'd critisize anyone who were to try that shot.
