Over the course of three trips, we hunted Tacoma Creek, S.F. Tacoma Creek, Smalle Creek, Winchester Peak, Winchester Creek, Gletty Creek, the ski resort, Power Lake, Calispell Creek (several different forks), Rocky Gorge, Buck Creek (road closure area), Woodward Meadows, and a number of other non-descript areas.
We saw 18 moose and a number of cows, but mostly bulls and what few cows we saw weren't hanging around to get shot at. Of course everybody else we ran into was taking pictures of cows everyday standing there staring at them from 50 yards away. It's always easier without the tag in your pocket, that's for sure.
She could have shot several bulls on the first couple trips, but we just couldn't get a break on a cow. She was a little less stressed than I was... kept saying no biggie dad, we'll get one during Thanksgiving break. Oh to have the faith of a child again!
Anyway, any of you guys waiting to get your kids into hunting - don't wait. My 11 year old has already killed several deer and now the moose, and my 8 year old daughter killed her first deer (a buck she likes to point out) this year too... and the young one's the one I'm gonna have to keep an eye on, she's just a killilng machine!
Every time I turned around the whole time we were skinning the moose my youngest was standing there with her skinning knife telling me to get out of the way, that's the area she was skinning on.
My wife was trying to scrapbook their hunts with them when we got back and they spent the whole time arguing over who was going to get the sticker that said, "We're going to have to put this wedding on hold... it's hunting season!" My wife finally took it away from both of them and said since neither one of you are engaged yet, neither one of you are getting it!
Maybe one day they'll reach back in their old memory and think of me and smile... that and if they ever marry a hunter, he's going to owe me big time!

SWEEEET!
Very nice moose! Great pics and story. We've been deer hunting that unit for 20 years now. Saw some moose on our very first trip in the Deer Valley area. Been seeing moose on a regular basis down in the southern portion of the unit the past few years. Sure would like to daw a tag. How many points did it take? Not many judging by her age. Here's hoping luck is on my side one of these years for drawing the tag.
PS: Thanks for the tips you put in the story for more places to look should I get lucky and draw!

That is awsome. I wish I wasn't in my mid 40s and I'd apply for a cow tag but I don't think I'd be young enough to draw both. I have 4 teenage girls and putting them all in for all the draws gets expensive. But I think cow elk would be a good place to start.
