hunter report drawing?
« on: January 08, 2008, 05:14:19 PM »
I got a card in the mail today that says if you submit your reports within 10 days of the kill or if unsuccessful by January 10th you are eligible for 9 special deer or elk permits. Are these antlerless tags or something a bit more coveted? How long have they been doing this?

A couple years now, but nobody knows if they actually exist. nobody knows anyone who has ever won the drawing for one of them.

Oh that is priceless, I was hoping to hear from somebody on here saying it happened to them.  I mean we have heard from at least 1 person from every other opportunity.  Maybe they had to do a redraw?

Redraw.  That would not suprise me.

I often wondered about that, you never hear of anyone getting the tag.  Way I understand it, it is just another tag to be used during the general season!

Yep, the Open Government Act (Public Disclosure Law) can be used to obtain just about anything you want from wildlife, or any other state agency....

Each agency, in accordance with published rules, shall make available for public inspection and copying all public records, unless the record falls within the specific exemptions of subsection (6) of this section [RCW 42.17.070], RCW 42.56.230, 42.56.320, or other statute which exempts or prohibits disclosure of specific information or records. To the extent required to prevent an unreasonable invasion of personal privacy interests protected by RCW 42.56.230 and 42.56.320, an agency shall delete identifying details in a manner consistent with RCW 42.56.230 and RCW 42.56.230 when it makes available or publishes any public record; however, in each case, the justification for the deletion shall be explained fully in writing.

I was going to start a new thread on this topic but then found this thread. So no one knows anyone who has ever won one of these tags??!! Is this like the cereal box prizes or the McDonalds giveaways that no one ever wins? Do they specify somewhere what these tags are supposed to be for?

I actually do know the person who was drawn for the westside any elk tag.  It came as a complete shock to him as he knew nothing about it.  Thought someone was playing a prank on him.  It is much like the raffle tag, any elk, any area, any weapon from sept. 1st to dec. 31st.   He took a nice bull in October I believe down in the one of the units around st. helens.  Next time I talk to him I'll ask him for more details.

WDFW used to put out a press release with the winners names listed.

Those special incentive permits are good for any open general or permit season.  Not like the raffle or auction which is open from Sept. 1 to Dec. 31.

They do exist, I was drawn for one a couple years ago.  Didn't even realize they did that at the time.  Just got a call telling me I had won.  I thought it was a joke at first.  I followed the rules they gave me and I received a second tag.  As I remember it was good for anytime from Sept 1st through the end of the year.  You could hunt any unit that would be open at some point during the season.  If you hunted a unit during the time it was open you had to follow the regs for that unit.  In other words, if you hunted during bow season you had to use a bow.  Couldn't use a gun during that time.

I was given a choice, so I chose deer.  Took a nice 3 point near Dayton.  Another requirement was you had to notify the local WDFW if you were going to be out and where.  Let them know someone with a special tag would be in the area.

If you look in the General Discussion under "lifetime licenses" thread.....I posted that my uncle finally drew an Any Bull tag and filled it.  After turning his harvest report for that year he drew the Any Elk tag for the Eastside for the following year.....which was 06'.  They do exist!
