Muzzy Guru's. Need advise
« on: November 27, 2009, 06:43:28 PM »
I don't really know anything about muzzy's but have been strongly considering it. Would really like to get away from the crowds. What do you think of a Traditions Timber Ridge as an entry level muzzy? It's on sale at Cabelas for $90.00 and I thought it'd be a good thing to put on my Christmas list. Waht do you think?

I'm not sure if it's legal for muzzleloader seasons in this state. Doesn't it only come with the 209 ignition? If so it's not legal. If you can change it over to #11 caps or musket caps then it might be legal. The cap also has to be "exposed to the weather" according to our state's rules.

The add says 209 and #11. Also says NW legal.

Oh ok. I did Google it and what I found didn't say anything about that. It should be just fine then, especially for that price. Although I myself would be a little leery, since I've not heard of anybody using that particular model.

I saw the same thing in the online add. I'm wondering now if it's a misprint. The paper add says both. I don't know what to think.

I just looked it up online as well. I don't think it is #11 compatible. They even listed checking the laws in our state before ordering.
Must have been a misprint :(

i do not think it is #11 compatible. i wouls stay away from the cheaper guns like that, i have shot a lot of muzzleloaders, and owned 4 diffrent guns. look at the cva elk horn pro mag use musket or #11 caps, whole sale sports sells the black stock and black barrel for 220.00 i shoot the camo modle right now very great easy to maintain and great acuracy. still cheap to get into for about 300.00 you can have everything to start your smoke pole

Everytime I start searching for ML's I get all mixed up.  :P  I feel like such a rookie but I've hunted and shot all of my life.  Just not ML's.  :bash:

As mentioned spend a little more money stick with name brands for ml's.
I bought a cheap Cabelas brand ml 10 years ago. I ended up missing two nice bucks because of constant misfires. It was junk.I buy a lot of stuff from cabelas and seems Cabelas brand items are not very good quality. :twocents:

You can pick up a Bighorn now at Bi-Mart for around $200. They are clearing out their inventory. I have a TC Black Diamond and also a good ml for the money. If you buy a ml locally can ensure that legal to use here in WA

I don't believe this gun from Cabela's is legal.  The Cabela's site states that it is a
one piece 209 ignition system.  On Tradition's site the only reference to the gun is a
209 conversion system for $29.95.  The gun is not even listed.
It looks like Cabela's got a bunch of the guns already converted and I doubt if you could find a breech plug for #11's.

On another state hunting site, a guy just stated that he just sold his ridge runner, which included a scope and caps, etc., for $100.  He said he bought it two years ago from Cabels's and it came with a #11 ignition system.

Last month I bought a CVA Buckhorn 209 Mag for $129.  Cva is sending me a $30 rebate. I got a musket nipple and breech plug for about $10.  The gun is every bit as good as the Knight Wolverine I had 10 years ago.

Thanks guys. I'm scrapping the Cabelas Traditions idea. I saw that myself SAGEBRUSH, traditions didn't even list it as a model to confusing for this *censored*, I'll look elsewhere.  :chuckle:  Considering a wolverine or maybe taking a look at the CVA Elkhorn I remeber Wholesale sports had them in stock but can't remember the asking price.

i thought the buckhorn is a closed breech and not exposed to the elements i know you can get the traditional style breech plugs and nipples but is it exposed like the law states i have look at them and did not think they were wa legal because the were enclosed :dunno:
