First Deer Down!!! (pics and story)
« on: November 27, 2009, 08:32:12 PM »
It finally happened!  After 5 years of trying, I tagged my first deer.  BULLBLASTER and I got into our treestands shortly before shooting light.  Got all set and within 5 minutes, spotted the first deer.  A spike.  Pretty soon we had a couple does as well.  After the spike left, a fork horn arrived.  I looked behind us, and spotted a buck coming in but I couldn't tell how big he was.  After a bit, Chris let me know it was a shooter and to get ready.  He was following a doe, and was grunting and snort weezing.  As they came in, we thought the 2 bucks were going to fight.  But they didn't.  The forky came down and started feeding.  Soon after, the bigger buck joined him.  I had ranged this spot earlier at 12 yards, but had no shot.  He then proceeded up the trail.  Chris stood up and gave a grunt while I went to full draw.  After another grunt, the deer turned broadside.  I had also ranged this spot earlier on the spike at 22 yards.  I settled my 20 yard pin slightly high and squeezed the trigger.  After a short hiss, I heard a solid THWACK!!!!  Good hit!  The deer took off and stopped after 15 or 20 yards.  He wobbled a bit, went down, and started thrashing.  We watched as he went still.  He was done and no trailing neccessary.  We got out of the tree and I started jumping around.  I was (and still am) so pumped.  We went over to him and he was a nice little 4x3.  Not a big rack, but a trophy to me.  My very first deer.  I'll never forget it.  HUGE thanks to Chris.  Wouldn't have been possible without him.  Enjoy the pics.

:chuckle:  Sorry about that.  We made a run to the taxidermist.  I gave him the cape in exchange for a work credit on the euromount.

Thank you everyone for the compliments and congrats.  The Hellrazor broadheads definitely did their job.  I'll be using these next year for sure.

Thats a dandy. Its not the size of the horns that make it a trophy. I have a 2x2 hanging on my wall. That was my trophy.
