Me, a buddy and CoryTDF on a late elk hunt a few years ago.  Cold.  Deep.  Steep.

Hey Pathfinder-  Looks like a "brutal" hunt.  Not many places for you, or the elk to hide! :dunno: Did you guys get an elk?

You are right about that Jeff, no place to hide.  We found the elk, there were about 70 of them, sitting on a bare knob, guards posted on every corner, no way to approach.  We tried to get on them for two days, but never got closer than 100 yards.  On the afternoon of the 2nd day they busted down into a deep, deep, deep, deep canyon.  Jimmy, (the middle guy in the picture) busted down into the canyon after them.  Cory and I just looked at him, each other, shook our heads, then sat down in the snow to watch.  Did I mention that the canyon was deep?  Snow drifted in spots chest deep.  He got into the bottom of the canyon, made it to within 40 yards of a cow, but couldn't get a clear shot.  The elk then promptly trotted back out and onto their knob again :chuckle:.  They made it look like an afternoon stroll.
It took Jimmy almost 2 hours to fight his way through the snow up outta that canyon.  Twice he just collapsed and lay down in the snow.  We were seriously starting to get worried that something bad was going to happen.  Finally he made it out and collapsed on the trail.
"Why didn't you guys stop me?"  He said.
Cory and I looked at each other and shrugged.
"Entertainment?"  I said.... :chuckle:
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Yeah that was an adventure to say the least.

This'll be my first entry for the month.  November 2009.  Whatcom County.  Father-in-law.

I really like this picture because it really captures the essence of climbing with skis.
