09 Wa. good whitetail
« on: December 01, 2009, 10:49:59 PM »
Felt like a good morning...got to the stand quite and on time! Got in the stand without clanking my bow, dropping anything.
Settle in for the day...and right away i have action, I can hear something coming, boom out pops a SKUNK.
OK i am thinking this could be the cover scent i am looking for...hmmm maybe not, than i think maybe this is a bad OMEN kinda reminds me of the black cat crossing in front of you.
OK flash back to the day before out in front of me I can see deer moving around in the brush, so of course i am focused on what is in front of me.
Grunt gruuunt gruuunt gruuunt....hey wait a minute that is not out in front of me it is to the right of me. oh crap just in time to see a deers ass go over the hill :bash: I am looking straight into the sun, (wish i had a picture of this) out pops another deer and stands directly in the sun and all i can see is antlers and i can make out a split g2..oh damm its a mule deer i think, so i don't even get ready. Hey wait a minute that's a whitetail as it steps out of the sun and follows the other deer (assuming its a doe) grunting the whole way as he drunkenly walks away.  I chose not to take that 55 yard quarter away moving shot had i been ready it would have been a broadside 35 yard shot  :o

Soo..moments after the skunk a doe showed itself on the same trail the skunk came down.  OK were is your boyfriend? hmmm your looking mighty tasty yourself....no don't shoot the doe no have some control man!
Hours later deer movement catches my eye again out in front of me again!  All i can make out is parts, tail wag legs but can never get a clear look.  Starting to get cold so i put my bow on the hanger and pull out the coat i packed in get comfy and start glassing in front of me.  Well lighting strikes me again out of the corner of my eye i catch movement and once again there is that split g2 buck standing broadside at 35 yards and i am caught with my pants down again :bash: bow hanging in the holder and he is looking my way!
All i can do is watch him walk away. As soon as he gets in to the Christmas trees and out of site i grab the bow and hit the grunt tube.
Seemed like forever ....but here he comes straight at me from a differant trail....yea buddy.. uh owe i better get that bow drawn now.
Than he hangs up and looks over the area for that other deer, than he looks right at me and starts that head bobbing crap trying to catch me move, you know look at the ground or down the hill and then quickly snap back. well about 3 times of this I have had enough I
am not going to get that perfect broadside shot..I pick out the crease i can see and pull through the shot.

He came out in 2 pieces...Thank you to my good friends on the pack out.

Hope you enjoy. about time i shared some good antler porn, maybe i can muster up a better field photo latter tonight.

Man that's a heavy buck!  I'm guessing with the second tines split like that somewhere in his gene pool is a muley, especially if you're in an area with both.  Maybe Granpa got a little frisky one night.....

Excellent buck, congrats!
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.

Great whitetail! We get whitetail bucks in Pennsylvania with split tines too.

stout buck - nice work.  Love the split G2s on whitetails.  Not all that uncommon and makes for an impressive set of tines!
