Effective range .22 mag for coyotes?

What would be the maximum effective range for the .22 mag?  Have only shot a few bunnies with this as of now but am curious.  Thanks.

Accuracy is the question.  With a solid rest and practice, out to 100yds easily.  Most 22mags I've shot are more than capable of head shots out to 100yds (pending is has a reliable scope).

On another thread about the 17hmr they said it was unethical to shoot a coyote with one.... 17hmr is just a necked down 22mag right? The bullet is lighter but hit in the head or boiler maker its still dead right?

I actually hit one right in the ear hole at a paced 135 steps. That said I would limit my shots to 50 yards or less

ive shot grouse a few grouse at 75 with a 22, i think 100yrds would prob be bout right

I think 75 yards easily, and 100 yards if you practice enough and the gun is capable of the accuracy needed for that distance. If you're only shooting to 50 yards you could just about use a shotgun with #4 buck instead.

I recently whacked a few coyotes with my 17 hmr and was not overly impressed with the results, even under 100yds. I have shot 50 cent size groups out to 200 with the same gun (baring no wind) Its very accurate but doesnt have much energy...I wouldn't think a maggy would have much better results, but have heard different from some of my buddies? Call em' in close or move up to a centerfire

Interesting, I think the .22 MAG would be fine to 100-150 yards with the right rifle.  Thanks for all the feedback.

I think 150 yards is really pushing it, as your bullet placement would have to be perfect. No sense in wounding coyotes so they end up dying a slow and painful death. We need to have a little respect for the animals we hunt, even if they are "just" coyotes.

 :)I have shot a few with 22 and 22 mag. very poor results, unless a perfect shot presented it self. I shot a yote in the chest at 50 yards with a 22, it twitched and trotted off, I killed it about 6 months later and found the bullet just under the skin, a rib stopped it.
I had a few hobble off somewhere after rib hits with 22 mag. I use 223 minimum kills em at any angle.
I think 50 yards is a long shot for 12 gauge, I would use a 12 before a 22 mag anytime.
I kill quite a few yotes and prefer to see them roll at the shot, I aint hunting them for sport, I intend to kill em.
