Czech on Czech affair(new toy)
« on: December 03, 2009, 09:36:02 AM »
My Christmas present finally came in.

I'm ashamed to say that this gun has been sitting in my safe for 6 months naked and unfired waiting for a scope. I've even had rings ready and waiting.
At first i wanted and purchased some WARNE Maxima 30mm high quick detach rings but then i got ahold of a prototype actually made by meopta for the gun. I figured it was perfect for the gun being Czech on Czech on Czech rather than Czech on Oregon on Czech.

The meopta is top notch glass. I wanted this gun to be set up with some nice euro glass and that's what i got. Meopta is being mentioned with Zeiss, Sworovski, and Schmidt&Bender. Meopta's current line of scopes hasn't caught on a ton yet but it's definitely picking up momentum. The price is notably going up in the European market and will soon in the US market when they have to order more.

Although the CZ-USA cz's are nice they arent the same as a European market CZ. The cz-usa's i looked at didnt have a set trigger or the hand carved bavarian stock. They take on more of an american look to appeal to the targeted buyers. This one is a CZ 550 Stutzen(full stock). Also commonly known as mannlicher even though that is an actual brand. The stock is shorter than the regular 550 at 20 inches. I got it in 8x57, which is thought of as a stagnant round to many because many ammo companies dont load it with any real zing because there are so many old solf metal guns in this caliber. Really the round has a lot of potential. For my first three boxes of ammo I will be shooting Sellier&Belliot 196 grain soft point boat tails, after that i intend to reload the brass with 200 grain nosler partitions.

Here's the skinny for those that didnt want to read my 3 paragraphs of crapola.

This was his Christmas Present this year. I let him have it early [more like, he made it to the post office first].
6 guns and 4 scopes in only a year and a half of being married. I think he is spoiled. I am a pretty giving wife, I think.  :chuckle: :chuckle:

the soonest i might be around kent would probably be late 2011 lol. that is unless they send me somewhere else.  when my i first got over here and my buddy was talking about a mannlicher stock i had no idea what he was talking about. now i see it as a real show of craftsmanship and your right, a darn good looking rifle.

I dont think i'm gonna be buying anymore new rifles over here(thats what i keep telling my wife). there are so many classy older rifles and shotguns that i may have to begin a collection lol.

Went to the range today to poke some holes in paper with it so i can hunt with it this weekend.  In the fading afternoon light the leopould spotting scope couldnt pick up the holes in the paper anymore but my scope was still bright and clear.  :IBCOOL:

I'm not the greatest shot but i was impressed with myself with this group after i bumped the target out to 100 meters.

Very nice! I have a set of Cabelas' Euro Binos that are made by Meopta and have been very happy with them.  Very clear glass!

took it out for its first day in the field this morning. i hunted the moon until sunrise. Got out at about 530 and heard some Reh barking down the valley but nothing came out infront of my seat. Glass was good...... better than good.

hey, the american 527s and 550s do have a single set trigger...just not quite the variety of calibers.

too bad it's not available here in 7x57 any more...although i do think i could find a soft spot for a 6.5x55 mannlicher stocked version :)
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

took it out last night at 2200 because we had our first batch of snow and i was hoping to get a boar.  the glass was like fantastic. extremely happy with it.  Hunted from 2200-0100 before i fell asleep in the stand until 0430. it was cold out.
