Bow Dilemma
« on: November 28, 2009, 07:07:33 PM »
Well I think I have the approval for a new bow, I am gonna restring my Martin and turn it down for the wife to shoot, well at least she will give it a shot. I went to sportsmans outlet and bargain hunt here in Spokane and looked at what they had. I kind of liked a PSE Velocity (I think is it) it is an 07 model, new just old model. I kind of wanted something shorter but I like the feel of the PSE. Does anyone have any experience with these?

Have an older PSE as Back up bow now. Have shot PSE's since the early 1980's. First compound was PSE Citation Hunter 1978 model. Decent bows and have had no problems. Have heard very good about backing up their products.
I personally like longer bows because I think a bit more forgiving.
I think if you like the way it shoots, can get it for a good price  buy it

Personally have never been a big fan of PSE bows, they just never fit me right.  That's just me however.  One thing you might do is contact XXX archery, I think they may be a sponsor.  I bought my most recent bow, Bowtech Guardian from them.  But you just gotta be happy about the way it shoots in your hands.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.

I have only had 2 bows, shot each one for about 10 years before I upgraded. The first was a PSE I got when I was about 14, and then my Martin 8 or 9 years ago. I know the general rule is to but the one that is comfortable in your own hands, but since there has been quite a few tech advances and ups and down in quality I wanted to hear from you guys for a quality opinion. I have friends with $2000 set ups by the time they are done, that is out of my bracket. I have a hard time buying another bow when mine still does the job, but I don't want to turn down the chance to maybe get one without losing my jewels in the wifes rage. Anyone every deal with Black Sheep in Idaho? Was thinking of checking them out tomorrow.

PSE makes great bows, you cant go wrong with them. you dont need to spend $2000+ on a bow set-up
you can always take your sight and rest off your old bow and put on the new bow and PSE has some great kit bows for 400 to 800 for the kit. they come with WB rest quiver and 3 pin sights. If you dont like the sight or rest trade them off your old bow for the wife to shoot...I think there is a good shop in Deer Park to.

Went to Cabelas today and shot a diamond, wow, I know it was just one of the many I should try out. I think it was just the advances in technology that impressed me the most. My martin is 10 or so years old, I just can't believe how smooth it was. No vibration, or at least so much less than mine that it felt like non at all. I also stopped at another store and looked around and shot a Bowtec, it was used but I believe only a year or so old. It shot real well also, more vibration, but it didn't have a string stop on it. What are the opinions on string stops? If that is the correct term for them. I usually get my bow they way I want and then leave it alone and try not to look at new gadgets. I am also thinking of maybe going to a recurve or long bow, opinions?

Check out at Spokane Valley Archery.  They are full service pro shop that carries PSE, Hoyt, Mathews, etc....

Sorry, can't give you any first hand knowledge about PSE.

Yeah I have bought 2 bows from Josh, always had good service from him. I have just been shopping the close-outs. No offense to SVA, just trying to save money. The chain stores are more flexable to drop prices to get rid of old stock.

I have an STS (string stop) on my bow.  I like it.  Seems to quiet things down a bit.

Well I have decided to get another Martin, thanks for you advice guys. Never thought of myself as dedicated to only one breed of bow, only bought 3 in 14 years, but I had good luck with my past Martins and the price is within reason.

cool choice man.  also if you hunted with a recurve it puts a whole new twist my friend.  I shot a cow elk with my recurve a couple years back and its alot better then shooting a bull with my compound.  I felt for once like man i did it.  it was hard and rewarding just my :twocents:
