A hot tip
« on: December 04, 2009, 12:27:43 PM »
I had a tip from two different members to chase down a pair of particular critters.  I ran out of vacation and had to work two weeks straight.  Well, I got up this morning and though it was ugly out (fog and dark) I headed to check it out.  I wanted to do it before the snow flies.   Well one the members mentions that I might see a nice bull.  I gandered at first light and I couldn't find what I was looking for.  I went to a different area and also struck out.  I got above the fog and it was beautiful.  Since I was in the hood and already invested in gas, I decided to take another gander.  I still didn't find what I was looking for but bumped into this fellow.  Its a bit cropped and blown up and grainy from the light I am sure.  This would be one of those doucment things versus art.  If you know where it is, please don't post it out loud out of respect for the tip giver. Thanks.   What a beast.  Lots of character.  I need to track down more permissions before I could get any better pics.

He needs about three years.

When I first saw him I thought he was attached to a wheel line.

I like that hole on his right side.

Is that wrapped around his neck or just hanging on the hide 180degrees, but not 360?

I couldn't tell completely but there looks to be a line above his shoulder in that one profile pic and I think that is wire caused

Always amazes me how strong elk antlers are. Poor barbwire took a beating.

Great pic's as usual!

I didn't notice that it might be around his neck.  I can see it now on the right side of his neck in the first picture but cant really see it on the left side.  Hope he comes out of it and doesnt get hung up on something between now and the time he drops.

So, do you care to venture a guess at the bulls age?  Looking at his face/head, he looks like a younger bull but his body and the hanging gut on him makes him look older than his face.  Just curious what others think.

I bet he will be fine. Once he gets something he can pull against I seriously doubt that wire can resist him without breaking like twine.

Thanks, the lighting was aweful.  Never a happy medium.  The fog line was right above me and it basically absorbed the life right out of it.  Thank God for Raw and IS.

Great pics Doug. Well lets hope he doesn't get stuck in something and when he sheds it doesn't cause him damage. Way to seek them out.
