Wyoming and Montana Antelope Help
« on: November 21, 2009, 11:20:13 PM »
Me and a friend are wanting to do a DIY hunt next year and thought i would start researching now, looking for some areas to scout and research where we can find public land for a rifle hunt. not expecting anything big as far as size goes. just a good hunt/experience. Hopefully an area were we dont need any points. thanks for any help.

Wyoming has several units with left over tags most years. If you don't draw, call F&G for a leftover tag, then contact the local Chamber of Commerce for advice where to hunt.

I go to Montana every year for Antelope. Check out region 7 Lots of goats and no problem getting a tag. Doe tags are over the counter and are only 50$ for Nonres. up to 2 per person. We took a party of 5 this past season and tagged out in 2 days... That's right tagged out in 2 days. 15 goats
TOO MUCH FUN

Got my picture in the in the December issue of Huntin Fool ( Montana section ) :chuckle: with my Montana Antelope. I don't know but Antelope numbers are down quite a bit in the area I hunt. region 4. Still good lopes just a little herder to find.

Wyoming has several units with left over tags most years. If you don't draw, call F&G for a leftover tag, then contact the local Chamber of Commerce for advice where to hunt.

before you buy the tags make sure that you have a place to hunt 99% of leftover tags are in areas were it is hard to obtain permission to hunt.  in wy alot of the areas around riverton, rawlins, cody, and lander there is alot of public land with ample amounts of goats. and 90% of the landowners will give you permission to hunt if you ASK before you hunt not after you get caught  :chuckle:

Alot of good information off this site is what we utilized this past season.  A couple folks -if they PM you will give you great details, but I'll let them get ahold of you versus giving their names out in case of conflict...  The WDFG is awesome, they are not shy about giving information on their resources.  Gillette/Douglas/Casper City Commerce will give a list of land owners.  We had permission to hunt several lands but opted to hunt public lands with decent success.  There are numerous Hunt Management Areas the state has identified to hunt, lots of Public lands, but make certain you got the best maps available, cause the property lines are crazy.  We didn't hunt huge areas due to not 100% sure of boundaries....
