DIGISCOPING

Anyone digiscoping with full sized digital SLR and if so what type of mount are you using. I have a Nikon D200 and want to digiscope with my SWARO STS80HD.

And... how do you like digiscoping? Pictures of setup and digiscoped pictures greatly appreciated.

I have just started trying this and although the images are not great you can at least get some idea of the critter. Keep in mind that these deer are a long ways off.

I too have the SWARO STS80HD, and was interested in digiscoping.  After seeing the $469.00 price tag for the SLR mount...I was thinking it would be money well spent towards another lens for my camera.

I've been doing it for several years.  Not with a SLR though.  Very few pics turn out with good quality though.  You get a good idea of what quality the animal is, but usually they're not too sharp.  The last photo Huntnphool posted is common for the quality of the pics.  If you have the right light conditions, it helps.  It sounds like your equipment should be top notch for digiscoping though. Another idea is to check out the Swaro flip up camera adapter.  They're meant for a smaller camera though I think.  Also, I'm not sure if they work with the straight model.  Looking forward to some of your pics.

Jeffrey. You are right on, and there in lies my delema...  $$$$  Butt (and it's a BIG butt) I really want to try it out. So somethings going on ebay 

MtnMuley, I've read that the flip up gives really good photo quality AND you can "flip" it up and use the scope whereas you cannot with the other adapters.

Not a cheap hobby I'm afraid...

I have the Zen-Ray mount and use it with my leupold spotting scope and my P&S cheep digi camera. I love it. I like the fact that I can set it up and not squint through the scope. I can set back in the shade a look at the animal in comfort.

I'm very happy with the Zen-Ray mount!!!
pic taken of the bull I killed with my ML this year. It was about 1/4 mile away line of sight.

there was a swaro digiscoping adapter for sale in the classifieds a short time ago. i just went looking for it and i can't find it. i might be having a blond moment but i think Craig on here is the one that  had it. you might shoot him a pm and see if he still has it and some details on it.

You're definately right about the swaro adapter adding to the quality.  I've played with that setup before, and am really impressed.  I just hold my camera to the scope and that's a lot of the reason for poor quality.  The flip up system is also great of being able to spot, and then shoot.  Pricey, but if you already have the scope and camera, what the hell is a few more bucks?  You're 75 percent of the way to the best digiscoping system on the market

I found the best way for me to do it was to focus the scope on the animal, turn off the autofocus on the camera, back the lens out to min., hold the camera up to the scope, focus the lens as best as I could then dial in the final focus with the spotter. Those deer pics were 1/2 mile or so. I was using a Canon 20D with 18-55mm lens and a Swaro 65 scope.

The deer in the second pic was right before M-Ray pulled the trigger, his 09 Washington buck.

Some good some not so good.
