Couple of Muzzleloader firsts
« on: December 04, 2009, 03:47:56 PM »
Dad was the first to score on the day before Thanksgiving.

I connected on Sunday.

Today was D-day, first legal deer was going to hit the ground. We were parked at the intersection of two different properties I have permission to hunt. We started down the "P" side, and shortly ran into another hunter. We talked a short while and we decided to hunt the "V" side. We started back and spotted two deer in the middle of the stuble. One was this buck. We tried to put a stock on him, but he was surrounded by does, amd we jumped him. We then headed into the timber. We were taking a break and Gavin asked "when are we going home"? So we started back through the stuble. Just as we topped a rise into the winter wheat I spotted the buck with a doe. I crouched down and told Gavin to do the same. The distance was 226 yards. I told him to stay put as I was going to attempt to belly crawl to the buck. The last time I checked the range it was 100 yards. I continued to crawl planning to get as close as I could. After only a few more slithers the buck noticed me. I quickly got my rifle into shooting position. At the same time he stood up. I placed the bead right behind the shoulder and pulled the trigger. Right after the shot I heard a loud whop. He ran about 20 yards without showing a sign of being hit. He then started slowing down, and laid down about 100 yards away. He tried to get up on time before expiring.

nice bucks, good pictures too. what kind of firearm is that? I've never seen that model before, but I'm also not big into muzzleloaders either, just curious.

It could be an early Traditions in line.... But I'm not too sure... Just my guess....  :dunno:

I was gonna post that pic pretty soon if you didn't.  :chuckle:  You are the man!! I may be more excited for Gavin though, my daughters don't seem to be all that interested in antlers. A deer is a deer but I remember being a young boy and thinking the guys who got them were as cool as could be. Your son must think your the biggest stud in Colfax. Congrats, and thanks for waiting so long to post up the pics.  :bash:
