My late archery season.......
« on: December 06, 2009, 10:40:52 AM »
Well headed over to the Nile/ Little Naches area on friday after thanks giving. i was hunting solo this late season s my wife decited t come along and hang out at camp and be my driver for any after noon road hunts i decited to take. I planned on camping at the bottom of the 1706 road but found a big camp already ste up. I stoped to talk with the guys, cause it was a big area and they had there vehicles spread out all over the area. They told me they had other coming in, si said "No problem", I will head t Milk creek and camp there. As we were talking i noticed they had 4 bails of alfalfa stacked uo next to a dumpster. I asked about them and one of the men said "it is for the elk'. Me comment was " I have never seen the gam dept store alfalfa down here before". Then the other in formed me that " it s ours, we are putting it out for the elk". My only comment was OOOOOOO I see...........

I my self have never put out alfalfa to attract elk or deer but if it works for others, then so be it. i twas just surprising to see so much stacked up amd who knows how much they had out all ready.

Well, i spent the weekend huntig and hiking around Halfway Flats and an area just =east of Gold creek. the only thing i seen was a few does and nice 3 point ( i have a modern deer tag) with in bow range. My wife had to be home on sunday to work on monday so we headed home sunday afternoon. Norsepeak allowed me leave my jeep at his place for the night, so i would nt have to tow it home and back. Thanks Norse, i really appriciate it

On my way back monday evening hwy 12 was closed for blasting and could not get through, so camped at area i know just off the main road and hunted below Chimney Rocks on Tuesday morning. As i was hiking around I came around a corner and seen an animal, standing just off the skidder road i was on. i ducked down behind a stump that was between me and the animal. I looked for antlers, no antlers, good. I was ready to draw and so shoot so i stood up, started to pull back my bow while examining the animal and noticed, It was a COW, BEEF COW  :bash: :bash: :bash:
There were 3 cows laft behind from the cattle rancher that grases his cattle up there during the summer. This made me wonder, what is the leagality of harvesting livestock that was left hehind. they surly are not allowed to there this time of year  :dunno:
Any ways, headed back to the original area down on hwy 410 to hunt. Stoped bu and grabbed my jeep from Ty's place and headed to set camp up and hunt. see an nice 5 point and a small 3 point bull tuesday evening up arounn Egar Rock, and that is all the elk i seen the rest of the time  :bash: Seen some deer in a few different area but no elk.

Well, needless to say i had a big bowl of elks tag stew with a side of deer tag jerkey and man was that jerkey tough.

Untill next season......................
