Is this correct, in the 2009 regs it's states you can hunt Antlerless Elk (Archery) from Dec 9th - Jan 30th in unit 163 Morengo and Dayton?   :dunno:

Thats how I read it too. I think you can go to the website and find out any corrections they have made.

Yeah, that's right, but make sure you notice that it also states that the hunt is on all the unit EXCEPT for the National Forest area and the land inside the Rainwater Wildlife Area (Elk Area 1010 description).  That means it's all a private land hunt.  I went out a couple times last year and found lots of No Hunting signs.  I also damn near died getting twisted around in the fog, unprepared for the hunt, and not trusting the GPS on a piece of state land we found.  I called the state biologist, and he was no help.  I called the enforcement officer for the area, and he had no complaining landowners to tell me about or areas to try...even though it's a depredation hunt.  Disappointing, but I might try it again by knocking on doors this year.  Suprisingly enough, I never saw an elk while I was out there.  At least I can get out and carry my bow during January still.  However, I think my time might be better spent coyote or cougar hunting in Idaho.

Thanks Todd!
That's exactly what I thought, all private!

I can help with some people to call for permission.  We run  cows in that area, the normal bunch of elk we see in the Marengo are not there yet. Usually see a couple herds of up to 30 head.  We have not had much winter here yet, they just aren't moving down.

Had a few guys pm for info. I will answer all of you.  If I see animals before the end of the season I'll give a report here. We only had about 3 feet of snow before it started raining last week. We need cold temps and alot more snow before we weill see many down here.  Going to scout for sheep this afternoon, I bought a HDD video camera and wanting to try it out behind the spotter.

I appreciate it. I will be heading up there tomorrow. I plan on finding some cows but as past weekends have dictated I will probably only find a few big bulls. Either way I should return with some pics.
