what bow would you choose?
« on: December 06, 2009, 05:34:55 PM »
Looking at getting a new bow,I have looked at mathews and hoyt for my next bow, mathews reezen or z7 or the hoyt maxxis 31. Would like some input on these two bow if any one has one or has shot them. Like to here what you  think of vibration and the draw between these bows.

I would go Hoyt
smoother draw and less vibration and ...you can change the draw length ...that's big for me..

I have shot the Z7 and it is nice but it draws a little hard.

but you need to shoot them and find the one YOU like..

i looked at a lot of bows before i bought mine.  was toss between rock and carnivore, both by bowtech.  take a look at huntersfriends.com they have a lot of "ready to hunt" bows that come with alot of stuff that is probably cheaper than buying the gear separately.  comes rough sighted in also...  i got the carnivore.  2009 version.  love shooting it.  better than bear whitetail II..lol

I wouldn't stop at just those bows.  Unless you are in a hurry.  Take the time to hit a few shops and try all the new bows out.  There are a ton of really good bows on the market right now.  We are spoiled to have so many options.

XXX You shoot a PSE and you think the Z7 draws a little hard??!! :chuckle:
IMO:
Maxxis is better on the vibration this year than it was on the Alpha tuning fork from 09. Draw cycle is the same but a little harsher than the mathews Z7 again IMO.
Z7 draws smoother than the Reezen and has less vibration than the Reezen.
Can't go wrong with either bow, shoot both and decide.

My 15 year old Mathews still shoots just fine and is still in the 300fps range. If I ever pick up another bow it will be a 2-3 year old Mathews on eBay for a fraction of the price of a new one. :twocents:

Just went through this, all the info on this site is great. The guys here know the pros and cons of the different breeds, but like it has been said; don't base your purchase on opinions only the fact that it is what feels right in your hands. I was looking real hard at a bowtech but just liked the feel the martin had. Probably because I have always shot martins, but it boils down to how YOU feel.

I'm a Hoyt guy myself but go to a pro shop and shoot as many as you can and find the one that you like not what people shoot in this site.  Then don't buy a bow on eBay please support your local pro shop

Then don't buy a bow on eBay please support your local pro shop

I bought a bow several years ago from ebay at a great price. I then took it took a local bow shop and had a new rest installed, a new sight, and they adjusted the draw length, set it up with a new peep sight, and tuned it up so the arrows were flying straight. I also purchased arrows and a new release. So it seems you can still support the bow shops even if buying a used bow. The used bows have to go somewhere. I would think that the seller of the bow is probably selling because he upgraded to a new bow which he probably bought new from a shop. What comes around goes around. My next bow will be purchased used, probably not from ebay, but I would prefer to buy from somebody local, hopefully somebody from this site.

:yeah:  I give my support to the local shops, arrows, strings, etc.  But if I can save 400 dollars on a bow by getting it used on ebay in this economy... just makes sense.

OK, good to know. I am wanting to switch back to bow hunting for elk in 2010 so I may be looking to buy a bow in the spring, but it depends on finances. I may end up putting it off for one more year.

One thing to think about when buying used from eBay..... I did that very thing several years ago to save money.  Last year, the week before the state championship, my coworker picked up my bow as I was pulling arrows.  He dry fired it.  I ended up replacing both limbs, cam, idler wheel, string, and cables.  I did it at his expense.  If it was new from the dealer it would have been covered under the lifetime warranty.  $400 worth of parts went onto my bow that I saved $200 by getting it off eBay.  Food for thought!

I want to thank everyone for there input on the what bow to choose, i went out and shot a couple different bows and i have found the bow for me. Going with hoyt maxxis 31 is feels so nice in my hand with now vibration or hand shock. Love the speed of this bow cant wait until i get it in my hands and really start putting some arrows through it.
