Whidbey Buck Down!
« on: December 06, 2009, 06:14:49 PM »
Not much to tell.  I had hoped to hunt all day this whole weekend but ended up having to work. Well I got off work early yesterday at about 1:30 pm.  By the time I got home it was about 2:15 pm.  i almost didn't go hunting but something in me said get out there.  So I got ready and got out to my stand at about 3 pm (pretty late I know).  Within 5-10 minutes I had deer in front of me (doe and 3 little ones). They walked off and about 10 minutes later this guy hopped out into the field in front of me ( wrong property).  He stood at about 50 yards watching some other does out in the field.  Then in comes a little spike horn at about 20 yards (right property.)  The big guy heard him and in he came.  He hopped the fence and turned broadside at about 20 yards scaring the little spike off.  I aimed, took a deep breath and let the arrow fly.  Down he went!  He thrashed around a little bit and I grabbed another arrow and put right behind his shoulder just in case.  He took his last breath within a minute.

Here's the part I don't like to tell.  I wounded a deer last week on a really low shot .  I'm almost positive I hit him in the brisket and I am pretty sure he is still alive.  I think I've seen him twice since but I am pretty sure he wasn't going to give me another chance.  He looked OK (walking a little slow), but I think he will recover.  I made some mistakes this year, but I learned a lot and am glad I decided to continue hunting.  It's my first BT deer and I'm really happy with him.

Well done!!!!!! What a stud blacktail. It's going to be hard to beat that one. Better get him scored since you got him with your bow. He will do really well in the records.

Oh by the way.........Glad you stuck with it and kept hunting! :)

Right on Patton!!! Read your story earlier last week about your buck you shot and never found. Way to stick with it and shoot a dandy blacktail.

  Nice blacktail!  That is one to be proud of, don't worry about the wounded one, anything can happen with a bow.

Saw a nice one like that at Fort Casey, on Whidbey Is. last week.  Must be a few around.
Cut em!
