Wholly crap it was cold!
« on: December 07, 2009, 09:36:44 PM »
Any of you late NE archers get out this past weekend?  This morning it was -15 in my treestand at 6:00 am.  Not very comfortable but it sure got the deer moving.

Well I was at work sitting in my office. How many did you see from your stand?

11 this morning, 8 yesterday (one nice one that I should not have passed on).  It was really slow Thursday-Saturday, all does and dinks.  I wish that I was still over there it is supposed to get even colder for the next couple of days.

I froze. Even got a tick on me in the cold. Saw three nice bucks the last day. Ground was so frozen and loud could not get near them. Popsicle city.

too cold!  Luckily my deer tag is filled, but last year I went out when it was -15 and my bow froze up.  Did you try pulling yours back this morning?  Mine was real hard to pull back then squeaky and rough when I let it down.  Not sure how it would have shot, and glad I didn't have to find out.

We tried to hunt birds yesterday near E'burg.  Crazy wind...not sure what the wind chill was, but I could barely talk after like half an hour.  Quickly decided to go look at sheep in the canyon instead.  Seemed like every hill or draw out of the wind had sheep or deer in it.  Any of you guys in the canyon yesterday?  Saw a couple rigs with cameras or spotters out, so figured they might be HuntWa members.

About that here with the windchill.  Unfortunately had to work today, had last week off, mostly 9 degrees every morning in colville.  I had it all wrong, ground blinds do NOT get much warmer than a tree stand!  Good thing is the weather didn't bother me as much at work after 10 hours a day in the woods.  Two cold feet, 1 warm hand and a semi-numb release hand.  Great isn't it?  Hoping for snow!

Yep, one of the first things I do when I get all settled in my stand is to draw back an arrow and make sure everything works and is quiet including the strap on my release.  A couple of years ago the velcro on my release made just enough noise when I drew back on a nice buck to blow it for me.
Sunday morning it was 6 degrees and blowing 10-15 mph.  The worst part was the snow blowing out of the trees and in my face.  I don't mind the cold (the whole polar bear thing you know) but combine it with wind and blowing snow and I have a hard time staying out in it anymore.
