Thanks for the suggestions. My buddy joe also recommended the exact berkley you mentioned 7mm. I was fishing with an 8'6 sage rod that was given to him by the guy that got him started steelheadin'. I definitely want to go 9'6. I've always wanted to build a rod, and might end up building something up at Greg's in lake stevens. Joe fishes with a 9'6 st. croix that he really likes.

With the reference to shotguns, yeah I bought a benelli nova because it was what i could afford and it has killed lots of ducks. But in hindsight, i'd rather have been shooting a nice auto this whole time.

If your interested in building a rod Greg's is a great place, and theres a place in Smokey Point called Hook Line and Sinker that has a lot of rod building stuff, ask for the owner, he will set you up!But sounds like your on the right track, not looking forward to having more competition though, i have to be honest! Good luck man, and welcome to the ranks of us steelheaders!

Thats why you should go with the Loomis instead of the Berkly.  Once you get one in your hands youll wish you had it all along.
Hunting and Fishing are not matters of life or death... THEY ARE WAY MORE IMPORTANT!!!

Dude! Crack a smile, that is your first steelhead! Hell, I think I'm more excited than you.

Good job.

Funny thing is I hardly ever smile in fishing or hunting photos. I think this time i was trying to keep my saliva from freezing! It was probably 15 degrees when i took this picture. I remember not being able to feel my fingers at all.

I here ya. 7mm always catches more than me cause I lose the feeling in my hands and gotta warm up. The guy would just as soon lose a hand rather than miss a bite. I'm just not that hardcore.

Yeah, Joe is the same way. He's always sayin "are you gonna fish or what" he was thankin me for gettin the fire done later on in the day. I'm sure i'll be that dedicated some day. I definitely don't stop huntin when my hands get cold.
