Birds around Pomeroy
« on: December 09, 2009, 09:06:05 PM »
Well, we are making plans to head east the end of the month. I have access to some ground in the Pomeroy area to hunt upland birds. I have never been to Pomeroy, Walla Walla is about as close as I have been so I was hoping some folks on here could tell me what to expect. The pictures of the property I have seen look like rolling wheat stubble with some pretty good draws that should hold something. The landowner says chukar, huns, pheasants and quail . I can only hope. I do not know at this point, exactly where it is I was just hoping someone could let me know what to expect. We are also planning on bringing a call and a yote gun or three as well . We felt we should do our part to help the birds we miss survive the rest of the winter :chuckle:.

Beautiful pic, Whitey.  Brings back memories for me.  I used to hunt over there every year with my black lab.  He got old and is resting in doggie heaven now....haven't been back there in a couple years now.

Bobcat and BTKR went over there this year.  There are pics of there hunt somewhere on this forum.
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

PM member Wagner... I'm pretty sure he might have a lease in pomeroy and could tell you the conditions of the hunting over there...

lots of huns. saw more pheasants this year than the last few on the farm we hunt deer at. some quali but few and far between and a pretty good number of chukars if you're in the right country.

they had lots of water all summer up where we're hunting at...not sure if this helped to keep the pheasants around/alive.

Definately brings back memories.  Spend every opener there for years as a kid.  Birds were plentiful back then.

Thanks guys, weather looks like snow for a few days, to early for me  :'(. Hopefully it will snow again just after Christmas and fun will be had by all. Whitey great pics and good success. I am hoping for the same, the pictures I was sent look to have a bit more brush in the draws, either way it will be a blast. If all goes well I may head back over for the long weekend in January.
