Barnes TSX
« on: December 13, 2009, 07:12:19 PM »
I am planning on reloading some TSX's in my .243. I was wondering if anyone had the Barnes Manual and could please post the data for the 85 grain 6mm TSX with H4350. If some one could post this I would really appreciate it.Also what other loads have shot well for you with this bullet? Thanks

Jesse

you can basically load grain for grain with imr 4350. They have basically the same burn rate. Maybe start a bit lower but the results should not change much at all if any. they are 106 and 107 on the burn rate chart. i would start at about 39.5-40 and work up from there.

Here is some data from the Hodgdon website. I don't think it's the same bullet you're using, although it is a Barnes. The data should still be close. I'd just start slightly below the starting load listed. So if you start at about 40 grains as Red Dawg suggested you should be good to go.

The XBTC is the old coated bullet, I'd be very wary about using the data for that bullet on the new uncoated ones. In fact I wouldn't even do it but thats just me.

The new Barnes book (#4) doesn't list H4350 at all for 85's

It lists;
IMR 4007SC
Hunter (most accurate)
RL19
IMR4831
XMR3100
MagPro

If you need anything else pm me.

I seem to recall that when they first came out w/ the TSX and didn't have data published they used to recommend that you use th old data but start at 80% and work up.  I was looking through some of my old emails to Barnes but can't find any record of that but I'm pretty sure that was their recommendation.  Anyone else remember that?

Yes, I remember that. That data should be fine. Just reduce the starting load by 5 to 10% since the bullet isn't identical as you would in any case. Reloading really isn't rocket science.  ;)
