2009 Late season archery Mule deer
« on: December 11, 2009, 04:42:37 PM »
Had a good hunt this year, couldn't close the distance on the big one that I really wanted but this satellite buck offered me a shot I couldn't refuse.  Watched the big guy breed a doe six times while this buck and two other four points milled around waiting for the chance the big guy wasn't going to let them have. Shot him on Thanksgiving day.

Great buck, what unit if you don't mind me asking?

215, Sinlahekin. I'm really disappointed to find wolf sign, cougars are out of control there...now add wolves.

Thought so, I found wolf track in the snow up there right before thanksgiving this year.  Bummer, maybe you were hunting close to where we were.

Nice archery buck.  Congrats!  Guess this time I have to be the first to argue on your "wolf" tracks.  If that's a wolf, it's a pup.  That is an interesting track though.  A lot of cat characteristics, yet some K9 also.  I'm going to say young cougar.  If not, then a large coyote.  I've seen quite a few wolf tracks in the county, and they are quite a bit larger in size.  A good pic of a wolf track is the one mulehunter posted in the December photo of the month contest.  Just my :twocents:

Guess you had to be there. Not a cougar track....I've seen too many of those to make that mistake. Definitely not a coyote either, the pic does it no justice. Keep in mind that the track is nearly a foot deeper than the hand on the snow next to it. You had to be there to appreciate the size of this print.

You're right.  Being there is a lot different, and pics do no justice sometimes.  Glad you had a good hunt and harvested a nice buck. :)
