Slide Ridge Late Season Archery
« on: December 11, 2009, 11:31:05 PM »
Hey guys,  I plan on doing archery next year for my first time, I have gone along to glass on plenty of archery hunts, but never have actually been behind the bow.  Well, after watching for so long, and being jealous every year of the longer seasons, I have decided to hunt with the bow next season.  As some may know, I am avid about mule deer, so I got my early season planned, I got part of the late season planned, but I noticed the Slide Ridge unit is open into December for mulies, and since it is close to my normal stomping grounds, I am very interested in hunting it.  I know absolutly nothing about this unit, other than that my dad did one late season archery trip in it years ago, and missed a buck.  I was wondering if anyone has any info they would be willing to share to help me get started, and be able to hunt this unit, and get me more excited about archery hunting.  Thanks.

The only thing I can say is that we have a longer season for a good reason, it's not nearly as easy. I could have shot some big bucks and a big bull this year if I was rifle hunting but I wasn't.

Good chance that your first year will be TAG/SALT/PEPPER!!  I used Lowrys seasoning on my first Archery Tag :chuckle:
The wife said if I go hunting 1 more time, she's going 2 leave me!!  Gosh I'm gonna miss her.

It's open for permit only in Decemeber for archery. The deer are long gone by then. You say longer season? Did you miss the rifle permit is Nov. 1-20th? And the Archery is Dec. 1-8th? The rifle tag holders have a way better life for permit seasons. You may want to stick with rifle if you want a nice lengthy season. My dad and I have ridden snowmobiles up there plenty of times in December and only see local deer and it's a ghost town up higher.

Dang, I got five copies of the regs, but of course when I need them, I can't find them.  I am almost positive that it said Slide Ridge was open from Nov. 25 - Dec. 8.  Non Permit.   I could be wrong, but I am almost positive, I will go get some regs later to check.  And ya, I know archery isn't as easy, but I think I can get it done.  We will see though.

Okay guys, found the regulations, and found my mistake, I read unit 346 under Nov. 25 - Dec. 8, and misread it as 246.   Sorry again, my mistake.

Manson and Swakane are open for late archery. Slide Ridge is too high anyway for a late hunt. Manson is just the other side of the lake from Slide Ridge but it runs all the way down to the Columbia River. So in the Manson you've got some lower country to hunt. Maybe give that one a try. It's open November 21-30.

For regulations just go here:

Thanks for the advice,  I might try that if I get a chance, but I do already have some good spots.  Just looking more for a unit that is open later into December, but all those units seem to be in the blues or lower cascade.  Does anyone know how Little Naches is?  Hunted the rifle elk season a couple years ago, and saw plenty of 3 point bucks, but don't know if they will still be there by the end of November and early December?   :dunno:

Not many deer in Little Naches anymore but I think if you had a lot of snow it might be alright.
