I voted for 3.5x10(x50) probably because that's what I have on mine.  When calling dogs I always keep it @ 3.5 for close shots and if they hold up I turn the power up to 10. My AR is only accurate out to 300 yds so 10 power is plenty. I also have a 22-250 and a 25-06 with much higher magnification.   :twocents:

3x9.... enough power for the caliber... being a normal scope, I imagine that the cost will be lower...

If you're limited to Leupold, buy at least VX-II...anything below that is an embarassment to the name....and buy used...that way, when you have to send it back for repair/replacement, you're not out that much $.
What is twist rate of the rifle?

I personally voted for the 4.5x14 since that is what I am going to put on my in the next week or two.  I like the extra magnification for the longer shots and the 4.5 power is not much bigger when comparing it to a 3 power.

If your shooting rock chucks or prairie dogs with it  -- the more power the better.  Otherwise on yodel dogs I would go with the 4.5 - 14

most shots are short range, only need low power scopes.

Depends a lot on where you hunt.  Eastside or westside?  I have a 20" AR and hunt the westside so I put a 2x7 Burris Fullfield 2 on my rig.  When my dad was checking it out he wondered why such a low power scope on a varmint rifle.  All I had to say is it's perfect for the dense, dark timber I usually hunt in on low power and the rare chance I would get a shot past 200 yds I can still see just fine on 7 power.
