Well steelies in the water are kinda like bears on the hoof.  Terrible ground shrinkage once there harvested.

Could there be a 40+ sure could, just like there are probably 500 pound B. Bears out there.

Lets not forget that everything appears 1/3 larger submerged too.
The things that come to those who wait, may be the things left by those who got there first!

Does anyone have the book "Steelhead Fly Fishing and Flies" by Trey Combs.  In it he recouts a story of a 30# and 40# fish that returned to the Cowlitz.  Both were trucked back down to the mouth of the Cowlitz after they arrived at the hatchery.  One of them had a clown colored okie and line that they had broke off on some poor soul.  I lent the book to my neighbor so I don't have the exact quote.

That book was published in the late 70's but I don't remember if they said what year that happened.
Dreams are forever on the mind, realization in the hands.

This jibber jabber would be several times more believable if it was not December, on a SW WA river..........

Wanna do some crazy talk? Consider the Coast.................in April.

I have a friend, who knows a guy, and while gutting his last 50# native steely........
pulled a 5# springer jack out of the gizzard parts.

Bout the same odds of some 5' steely in the Lewis.

Anyways, much more entertaining readin about real fish. Nough of the rotten salmon talk.

Easy brah, better git back to searchin for your leviathan of the deep. Still stick with 5' as a possibility?

I know just enough to get me in enough trouble.......and the upper ends of possibilities.

Just like I saw a unicorn that crapped skittles and pissed a rainbow while I was deer hunting. I did not draw a unicorn tag this year, so the kill will have to wait.

Big 10-4 on the girth. Solid shoulders on him. Tail circumference is hard to feign.

Try to get the measurement? You got him in a cooler or something?

By the paintjob on that bad dog, that was not recently, eh?

Which calc you using? The one I got came in @24 and change. Either way, its in there. Not too many steelies crackin 20 without goin 40".......... That is one short heavy fish.

Glad he climbed out of the cooler. Seen too many of em who did not figger out how to git out.

That fish is today's big winner..........unless somebody be comin up with the magical 5'er.

You know, you are right my friend with the magnifying eyeballs. Never seen one.....or salmon for that matter.

The little cartoon punctuations are a nice touch, though.
