Drift Boat Launch
« on: December 18, 2009, 09:18:53 AM »
Was messing on Youtube and found a video of me launching my DB for the first time. Didn't know my Nephew had put it on there couple years ago. Don't know how to do a link thingy so just search fishseeker. Kinda funny :chuckle:

Hell... I've seen people unhook boats then back down a steep ramp. Not a good idea. His home made drifter didn't sink right then and there. That's a good thing!

I used to sit at Narrows marina back in the day and watch morons that couldn't back a boat trailer or launch/recover a boat properly. Oh so many laughs at that launch sittin there in the truck eating icecream with dad.  It was all good. I got to learn from other people's mistakes.

Launching this summer at Pritchard's on the Kalama, there was about a 5 ft drop to the water.  I slid the boat off the trailer & tried to slow its drop by holding on to the rope.  Bad decision, rope burned both hands & the back of the boat hit so hard it filled with about a foot of water.

About the time I got it bailed out another guy came up to launch so I rowed up stream, anchored, put out a hot shot & watched.  He did the same thing I did, so then I didn't feel so bad.

Next time up I dropped the boat on the bank & slid it in, worked much better.

Learned from your mistake!   You'd be surprised at how many peole can't learn. I'm not for gun control, but believe some people shouldn't own or have access to them. Same with boats.. Trailers, campers, Cars...

Launching can always be tough.  Gotta get in a habit.  Otherwise, any distraction can make it you tube worthy.  I also swear some people can never learn to row a drift boat.....

Kinda funny, spent 11 years building the D.B. and have yet to put it on a river. Had it on lakes but have not found time to run a river :bash:
