Yeah that is a good point bone. Where I blame the WDFW is in that they don't and havn't pushed to increase the penalties. Our legislature is dumber than a bag of rocks, they need to be lend by the hand. You are exactly right if the WDFW would take the time to explain just how much money they could make off of convictions with poaching and especially road violations Gregoire would be down on her knees
about all that money.
Of course with Gregoire we all know which group would be exempt from all fines and jail time.
A couple of issues here.
1. WDFW or any law enforcement agency, does not set the fines for any law violations (from traffic offenses to poaching) the state supreme court sets the minimum fine for each offense. It is then upon the individual county if they want to increase the fine for the offense (they can only increase, not decrease), usually counties just go with the fine set by the supreme court, however some counties do increase penalties for certain offenses
2. WDFW basically sees no money from the tickets they write! Once again this is mandated by the legislature. All funds from WDFW tickets go into the county budget where the ticket was written or to fund the state police academy (which is where WDFW officers get their training). WDFW gets a straight cut from the state Public Safety Enforcement Account which several other agencies also get funding from. But other then that they get no funding from the tickets they write. This would needed to be changed at the legislature and would probably not change since most counties would throw a hissy fit over it.
