cage traps for coyotes and bobcats question
« on: December 20, 2009, 06:02:10 PM »
was curious if the havaheart cage traps are effective at catching coyotes and bobcats.

friend of mine owns some property and has a coyote problem.  i said i would do my best to help resolve that problem.  my problem is that the dogs in that area are kinda call shy since alot of people do the whole drive by spotlight game. i also found what i believe to be a bobcat lair on his property

so do the cage traps work for coyotes and bobcats and how would i go about setting up a set, never used havahearts only conibears before the were deemed inhumane.

thanks,
steve

Havaharts work for bobcats but I have yet to hear of a Coyote going into a live trap. I am sure a few guys on here would love to help out with the coyotes!

IMHO, of all the traps made, Havahart are the cheapest, worst made traps out there.

so since i cant use conibears, snares, or any other body gripping trap due to yuppy legislation what would you suggest for the bobcat?

Cage traps work well, I just think the Havahart models are junk.  You better off with taller traps for bobcats, 15 to 18 inches is best.  There is a guy in KS that makes very good boxtraps, tall, I think they go for $60 a trap, but I'm not sure if the shipping will kill you.  If you want I can get his information and pass it along to you.

Yes, I believe that's his name.  Any experience with his traps?

The best bobcat cages are about 12-15" wide and 18-24" tall, yancy makes them, not cheap but really good qaulity. google Yancy bobcat cage traps. Good luck, its fun!
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

I messed around with the Havahart 1081 and it seemed pretty well built.   :dunno:  Has anyone else used this trap.  It is a big trap 15x15x42.

Yes Rasbo I think he offers them in 3 and 4 sets.  I bought the 3 set.  I think they were right around $100 each.  They are good traps.
