I watched a show on TV where they were deer hunting with them and shooting them a pretty long ways...100 yards?

you might want to edit the title of the thread to specify it is a gun you're talking about and not GMU 454, because that GMU is full of secrets.

My 454 has a 2" barrel, so haven';t shot far with one at all.  Seems I recal Larry Weishuhn used one in a Fredom Arms pistol to take a pretty good Brownie on Kodiak, if I recall he was shooting around 60 yards or so.   I bought mine for Brownies as well, or the Mtn variety we got back home in Montana and the occasional lost one that happens into NE Washington, but mine is for when they are 6 yards or so. :chuckle:
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.

I've got a Ruger Super Redhawk. .454. 7 1/2 barrel.
I love it.

Until recently I've had a Leupold 2x8 on it.
I've shot accurately out to 100 yards with a good rest....wouldn't hesitate to shoot a stationary target.

I shoot the .45 colt loads out of it more frequently.
I loaned it to a friend who shot a nice whitetail with it a couple years ago.... Dropped it in its tracks....with the .45

The .454 would put a big hurt on a deer.

If I ever get drawn for a moose I may switch between a bow and the pistol to take it with.
