I got Lucky
« on: December 23, 2009, 12:50:15 PM »
This was a one chance in a million shot and I almost have it in focus.   I sat and watched this pair of woodducks for a long time.  It started out as the female only as I scared the male away by accident.  She kept calling and calling and then he came in.  They then swam awhile in front of my while I hunkered in the cattails.  All of a sudden there was a ruckuss and the male came up with a critter from the swamp.  I don't know what it is......At first I thought it was a sculpin, then it had legs.   Well, after about 20 minutes Momma caught one and immediately flew to the bank to eat it.  I think it could be a Toad tadpole maybe.....here is the picture...............

I thought sculpin until I saw legs, then I am like HANFORD sized pollywogs.   Talk about a meal.  I wonder if there were a bunch of them there.  I'd have never thought it in icewater.   COOL!
