New rifle rut hunts
« on: December 24, 2009, 01:50:36 PM »
Does anyone know what the motivation was to have those new rifle rut hunts with one tag Sept 21-25 in each draw unit. Seems like a way for the state to set a precedence of season for trophy hunting which they could parlay into money. If you look at Utah and all the tags that are sold and the money created it does not take much of reach to have someone suggest selling unit tags for this season as auction type tags like Utah does. If you figure what they could make on each unit it could be a definite shot in the arm revenue wise with few animals being harvested. I know most wont like it but the conservation groups would love it if they got a piece of the pie. The way the state has added raffle and auction tags over the past few years I wonder if this could be in the works?

$5.00 per entry = a load of revenue!!!

My guess is wdfw is trying for more hunt oppurtunity and to increase draw odds on the normal hunt dates :twocents:

The legislature authorized 15 new raffle and auction hunts combined, all of this authority has been used to set up 5 new raffles involving all the authorized tags. They will be 5 multi species raffles. At this time there are no plans that I know of for any of the rut hunts to be converted to raffle or auction hunts. This is current as of the last Game Management Advisory Council meeting in December.

Respectfully
Dave

17 points, choose carefully, sometimes I think guys with that many points are just plain unlucky.

I put in for 1 hunt only.  Honestly, I don't plan on drawing.  Doesn't bug me too much at all to see "not selected".  When I do draw, I will actually be a little sad.  Gonna be a long time getting up to that many points again. ;)

I thought it was because archery hunters were taking more mature bulls with their special permit hunts than modern special permit holders were. So this hunt was to help even the odds.

Personally, I think it was a good idea.  Keep a few more rifle hunters interested in applying and not overcrowding the archery draw tags.  After all, it is only 1 animal per gmu.  Kind gesture out of the WDFW???.......Doubt it, but let's hope.

I like the new tag but what pisses me off is they shortened the archery season to accmidate the 1 tag   >:(

So the many have to suffer for the few  :bash:

Plus the dates for the draw units were changed to match general season.  Was looking forward to hunting the 3rd week of Sept. in the Toutle, this year.  Then they go and change it. :(  Still a fun unit to draw.

if you have 17-points you should be good for a double draw, special  permit two seasons in a row ,wow 17 years unbeleivable thats just wrong ,should not go more than7-points to be successful draw.and thats too long.

There must be poacher points because max points are less than 17.
