Explain you reasons for not owning a vanguard, mark v are out of my price range or I would have one, but I have had a vanguard for a couple years and it's been good to me. It shoots better then 1 moa never broke or malfuntcioned. The trigger does stink the synthetic stock isn't the best , it's an affordable factory gun. Not a semi custom.  What's your thoughts

I have owned a 7mm mag Vangaurd for over 20 years and a frozen fireing pin is the only issue I have ever had. Great gun  Mark

the vanguard that blmathis had used to be mine.  it has a solid synthetic stock and a DIY adjustable trigger from the factory. it's a really good rifle for the money and is a friggin shooter...a mark V is a great gun, no doubt, but you're talking hundreds of dollars for pennies worth of improvement.

I have an older S&W 1500 in .30-06 (my most accurate big game rifle) and a Howa Axiom (assembled from a separately purchased barreled receiver and U/L stock) in .223 (24" heavy barrel).  Both "Vanguards" are quality made, accurate, reliable rifles... what more do you need?

Yes but you can get Mark V rifles which are pretty well customed out from the factory. I agree with most of what you had to say. The major feature they tout is that the Mark V has a shorter angle on bolt lift , made in the USA and also offer more flexibility on options.

However the Mark V comes in lightweight and some semi-customized models. You really cannot compare the work on some of those rifles with the Vanguard series.

I can't see the pics you posted, Ray(firewall), nor can i get on weatherby's website(firewall) but they do have several different models of vanguard to choose from, from the $399 base model to a couple different semi-customs set in bell and carlson stocks, fluted barrels, etc etc etc.

I think they USED to have Vanguards with a fluted barrel and stainless... Anyway they definitely are not the same thing.

I think vanguards are a good deal especially considering that they are available in most of the Weatherby calibers where as most manufactures only offer the most popular ones.

Wish I could see the pics Ray, I have never seen a Mark 5 that was not God awful butt ugly, combined with a total piece of crap action the Vangaurd is a better gun. The browning (something) "gold medallion" I cannot remember is almost as ugly as Mark5's.

I just purchased a Mark V Accumark last summer and I don't think it's ugly at all.  It's comfortable to shoot and shoots good thats all I care about.  Savage on the other hand..... just plain ugly.

The Tikka will never measure up to a nice Mark V or even semi-custom Vanguard when it comes to quality craftsmanship. They certainly serve thier purpose and that's basically a cheap straight shooting and lightweight rifle.

I agree that funny looking photo WDFW presented is a really damn ugly rifle. I have never seen something like it and would never buy it. Does it come with a Sombrero too?
