45 ACP Brass
« on: December 25, 2009, 08:28:09 PM »
Im a new pistol shooter and of right now I do not reload for my pistol....yet.

Does the bullet manufacturer matter as far as brass goes for reloading? For example will the 45acp brass from Fiochii ammunition reload the same as brass from Winchester ammo or Blazer Brass ammo etc?

Right now im saving brass in their original boxes but its sort of a pain to keep them all seperated and if the brand of brass did not matter I could just throw all of the spent brass into one larger storage bin.

Thanks

doesn't matter really. what you don't want to reload is the steel stuff that wolf loads and any with the military style primer. Ive found some brass last longer than others but for plinking with the 1911 it really doesn't matter when its worn out it will split in the re sizing die. i do however always buy nickle plated for my self defence loads. again doesn't really matter i don't think other than there all uniform and the nickle cases are a little slicker as far as feeding goes

While Blazer does make 'some' Brass 'Brass', most of the Blazer is aluminum. Littlebuff is very correct about the steel cartridges. Both not reloadable. Don't buy any Starline. Junk brass! Stick to most popular name brands and you'll be fine. -Even CBC is good enough for several reloads.  I personally have many thousands of Speer, Win, Rem, Fiochi, Fed, and other brass that have 20-30 reloads on them. 45acp cartridge is a very forgiving round. Just remember that the headspace is on the case mouth, so don't crimp like you would a 38spl or 357mag. No roll crimp. Nothing wrong with nickel. I load thousands of target rounds in both nickel and brass every year.

Like the others said, it shouldn't matter with light loads. I've had problems with heavier loads in different brands of brass though. Unlike JackOfAllTrades, I only use Starline for some calibers. That brand has given me the best results with full power 10mm loads in my 1911. And when I had a 460 S&W Starline was by far the best brass I used in that caliber.

I am surprised WOLF even was talked about. NEVER EVER shoot wolf ammo. Our firearms are not designed for steel casings and it is garbage. I would never shoot that crap!!

Thanks all for the info. I know people a few people who reload for rifles and they are picky on which brass they are using so I didnt know if the same went for 45acp as well.

I have a few hundred rounds of blazer brass, trying out different types of ammo. The ones I have are 'brass' colored so i think they are the actual brass casings, not the aluminum.

I've reloaded a lot of Blazer Brass cases in 40S&W and they've all worked just fine.
