Watched a wolf pack (UPDATE 2-21-10)
« on: December 28, 2009, 04:57:52 PM »
Looked out the window this forenoon and there was a bunch of wolves going across the hill, grabbed the binos and  the spotting scope. They were just having a meeting, 7 of them, playing around, at least one female coming in heat. After about ½ hour Boneaddict showed up with his family so my 3 granddaughters, Bone, Rose and my wife got to watch them.  Bone grabbed his camera and took a couple shots then jumped in his rig trying to get closer. About that time the pack split going off in opposite directions, by the time he got to his advantage point they had drifted away.
Bone and his family left to find some bucks to photo, 5 minuets after he left a wolf showed back up, then another and another. I was able to keep at least one in the spotter for the next one and half hours as they wondered around some times single some times in groups. One made a big circle up around the hill marking bushes and come back to meet another which had just caught a gofer and kept it away from a raven which harassed him for ten minuets. Eventually all 7 were back together 200 yards from the neighbors house just plying around, they got into a big draw and I never seen them after that. I know this is long but who gets to watch a wolf pack for two hours.

Very cool.  Cant wait to see the pictures.  As long as they are going to be here it would be cool to watch them.  Be even cooloer when we can hunt them.   Dibs on the first tag.   :P

Better hope that at some point in time Washington has a hunting season, because they will be about all there is left to hunt. >:(

Bone had the big camera but it's a long ways and spitting snow so the light was bad, but we hope you can see them, Bone will be back in a couple days.

No.  But they could be any time, the river won't stop them.  Once up in BC I seen 3 wolves run a moose into the lake, 2 leaped on its back, one fell off in a little ways but one stayed on 200 feet before he quit and swam back, the moose made it out the other side.

Yep, they have been on your side for some time, last spring there were some deer found up in Cow cr. with just their @ss ate out, does and fawns. Trail cam pictures of wolves in Benson Cr. Wolves were seen in the East Chewuch during and after hunting season, next year fitkin will need a new bs story, perhaps he can use global warming. :bash:

Could be why I didn't see a buck there today......
Here they are folks.  These are about 3 miles away and crappy air.   I tried to get close but they weren't there when I got there.  I guess they went on the hunt and the pack split.  Then I guess after I left they showed back up. GO FIGURE.
I got six in one picture.  I swear there were 8 at one time.  Rose swears she saw 8 one time in the spotter while I was chasing them and Idabooner thought he might have seen 8.   After they returned, Idabooner watched them for nearly 2 hours it sounds like.  They came a lot closer.   He Confirmed 7 of them.  Interesting enough, I never saw a COLLAR, red or blue, and there were no BLACK wolves.  You'll note that the male was straddle another wolf the whole time.   Basically the female is coming into heat and one of the younger males (probably last years crop) was getting a little frisky.  Alpha male took him down and straddled him for quite a long time.  Now I suppose sometime in the future that male will get the boot and he can meet up with a female from twisp River pack and we can have anoterh confirmed pack.  I hope this one goes to the Entiat. It might get the attention of some of these govenor tag fellows. :chuckle:
