I love my Bushy. Gave it a pre season scrub and havent touched it since aside from some lube and it just keeps on ticking. The thing is an absolute tac driver as well. I'm not sure you can really go wrong with any of the name brand AR's. Just be picky and get exactly what you want. I bought one (custom build) before my bushy and I got so wrapped up in accuracy it turned out to be too heavy for calling.

I think the only consideration for ammo is that some of the cheap stuff is dirty. Also I wouldn't want to shoot Wolf ammo. It's a steel case sealed in a laquer. I hear that the laquer can heat up and start to melt into your chamber. Not sure if it's true about the laquer melting but I'm not interested in taking a chance. Just the idea of those steel rounds grinding into my chamber is a real turn off for me though.

Its really a name game set a price cap and go handle/drool on some  Figure out what you want the rifle to do, short and quick in cover, heavy barrel, varmint or multi purpose cal? The configurations of them are endless.

The rem r15 is a bushy and the r25 is a dpms.

I own a Custom AR-15 Built on a Superior Arms Lower with some nice componets inside, the custom road is always an option for you. I also own a Armalite m4 style rifle and Ive always been very happy with its performance and quality  :twocents:

I have an Oly. I don't get to shoot it much but when i have i've had issues with using cheap ammo. mostly due to it burning dirty and primers coming out and getting stuck in the trigger group. I've never shot any other type of AR but for what i use mine for i can't imagine i'd need to spend the extra $. just make sure you get reliable (not wolf) factory ammo for plinking, the prices are coming way down so it shouldnt be hard to find

Question for you AR guys.  Can a guy get into a decent one for about 5 bills?  Never had any experience with AR style rifles, but have wanted one for a long time.  Although I would prefer a big game caliber, instead of .223.

Thanks for any info.

Your look around 700 for a cheaper one. You can always just slowly build one. Buy a lower an the save an get the upper you want. They have uppers in bigger cals.

well I have a Bushmaster, a DPMS and a Colt H-Bar...all run, all shoot well (H-Bar is a tack driver with almost ANY ammo..)

I dont think you will be wrong with a Remington R-15, a DPMS or a Bushmaster (who is building the R-15)...or others like Rock River...Lots to choose from.

Whatta ya mean I can't have one of each?

If by decent, you mean something that functions properly but may be cosmetically imperfect and comes from a reputable company, I would check out the bargain bin at CMMG.
They will most likely be all 5.56/.223 though.

do all of you own a damn bushmaster? yes they have been around for a few days but owning 2 ar-15s one match and one "pistol" and having shot 10 different brands/ close to 30 set-ups, fulton armory, and jp enterprises make the finest imo, i built mine out of dpms lower, one piece trigger group, 24" super bull barrel and it shoots very well. i spent $575 on my pistol build with a dpms lower and a lewis machine and tool upper in 7", the kits are do able for around 600 if you do the leg work and its nice lower receiver prices are comming down to around 100 dollars again.
when all else fail, grab the browning machine gun
