1st sheds of the season....

I'm over in Boise visiting my son for Christmas...he had to work so I decided I better spend the day in the mountains.  I took a heck of a walk in an area the deer and elk winter(between Garden Valley & Lowman), I started at 8:00am and got out at 4:30pm.  I seen at least 300 Mule deer and 200 elk, to many to count.  I was hoping to find a few early Muley sheds but I only found a small 3 point from last year.  On my way out I ran into a bunch of Whitey's, it surprised me to see them this far South.  I was walking a good game trail and jumped about 10 Whitey's and when I got to where they were these two matched sheds were laying there, still pink, I'm wondering if I jumped him and forced them to drop?  

I'm thinking most of the Muley's are still packing, I seen at least 30 bucks and none of them were packing just one horn.  I also seen two dandy 4 x 4's doing a little sparring, nothing violent but they were pushing pretty hard so they must be firm, fun to watch.

That area is the most beautiful area I have ever come across. On one drive from Stanley to Garden Valley, I saw around 600 elk one spring. Jumped out of the rig to do some shed hunting with no success. Saw a few raghorns still packing, so I might have been a hair early.

Cool.  If they had just dropped, they'd have bright red blood on them.  Pink says a few days and likely rain or snow to dilute the blood.

nice, i gonna take a trip up to packwood here in late jan or feb and look for some horns. i know where they go :chuckle:
