Hunter hurt, shotgun blows up

Possibly from bad reloading and from the photo an older shotgun not up to the task.

Thats an old Remmy Model 12. I have one that was givin to me years ago, I love that shotgun. I havent used it for a long time but when I do I don't use reloads. Think I may need to shoot a turkey with it some day. Hope he's OK.

I don't think it is unless Browning did the same engraving that Remmy did. Mine has the exact same rooster on the reciever.

BTW they are the same guns but just different makers. I may have the Model number wrong but don't think so.

one's a pump, one's an auto. the browning has an unmistakeable shaped reciever...
the gun in the pic on the news article is a browning a-5.

I would agree, looks like a Browning A-5 to me.  Hope the guy has a speedy recovery.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.

OK wrong on the model (like I said) but I know for a fact mine is a remmy and the one in the pic is a Remmy. Guess I'll have to post pics.

Do a google boys and girls if you doubt me.

It seems that maybe we're all correct to a degree:
Quote
History
John Browning presented his design (which he called his best achievement[3]) to Winchester, where he had sold most of his previous designs. When Winchester refused his terms, Browning went to Remington. Tragically, the president of Remington died of a heart attack as Browning waited to offer them the gun. This forced Browning to look overseas to produce the shotgun. It was produced by FN (a company that had already produced Browning-designed pistols) starting in 1902. Remington would later license-produce it as the Remington Model 11. (It was also license-produced by Savage and Franchi.[3]) The Model 11 was the first autoloading shotgun made in the USA. Production in Belgium continued until the start of World War II, when Browning-marked examples were produced by Remington Arms in the United States[4]. Unlike the Remington Model 11, the Remington-produced Browning shotguns had magazine cutoffs. Some 850,000 Remington Model 11 shotguns were produced before production ended in 1947. In 1952, production returned to FN, where it continued to be produced until the end. However, the majority of production moved to Japan in 1975. Finally, in 1998, manufacture of A-5s ceased except for a few commemorative models created at FN in 1999. By that time, it was well-established as the second-best-selling autoloading shotgun in U.S. history, after the Remington 1100

Kind of, except for the fact that that is a remmy in the pic.  :chuckle: Based on the Browning A5. Never doubt Gutpile.

Yep you got me there. I couldn't remember the model. Here's mine. Notice the engraving. I could still be wrong if Browning did the same engraving but I doubt two makers did that.  :dunno:

Information is still being sorted out but unfortunately this fellow hunter has lost his hand. The surgeons could not save it.

Family in Idaho that know Shawn well say that he is a super friendly guy and an avid pheasant hunter. It appears that this was a very freak accident by someone who hunts and shoots a lot. He is still in the hospital in Spokane. Keep him in your thoughts and prayers. We're very glad that he is still with us and will perhaps hunt again some day.

It sounds like it's time to get a new gun.
