Dram Equivalent
« on: January 09, 2010, 10:12:19 PM »
Does anyone use this info anymore?  It seems this was outdated in the last century.  Is it worth using for comparison between similar loads?  I can't figure out why this is still printed on a box of shells.  Is there something I'm missing?   Wouldn't velocity be a suitable replacement?  Some boxes list fps but not all.
Friend: "Are you free tonight?"
Me:  (Gazing into the distance as a bald eagle screeches)  "I'm always free"

it'd be nice if velocity was standardized across the board.  i guess dram eq works out alright for comparing similar loads.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

the olympics use dram eq. in the shotgun sports to determine legal loads. i think its more of a standard international unit more than anything and its just been accepted as standard info when the ammo company prints the boxes.

look at it like this 2.75 dr. eq. is going to be your average 12ga. load right about 1200 fps pushing 1oz of shot, 3 dr. eq. is going to be a bit faster 1250-1275 and MAX dr. eq. is going to be right around the 1300 fps neighborhood
