great bull...congrats to the hunter....

IMO - If they don't stay down, shoot again, if you've never had to take more than one shot, it tells me there's a good chance you may not have shot all that many animals. :twocents:

Agreed with most the posts here.... congrats on a helluva bull!  My buddy lose a 330+ bull this year after he 'dropped' it with one shot from his 30-378 (I think thats his rifle, not sure but its HUGE!) at 200 yards and then the bull got up 10 seconds later and ran over the hill... looked for 2 days straight for that bull and never found him...  Keep shooting until you're sure they're dead!  If he would've taken the time to watch the bull for a minute or two in his sights he could've had himself a helluva an elk...

Wow, bunch of one sided my opinion people sometimes, so what he shot it 5 times, the animal is down, it is recovered and we are not reading about a lost or wounded animal, for the ones that said crappy shooter with him shooting it five times would be the first ones to say what a suck hunter he shot it and wounded it and it got away. So sometimes before you voice and opinion sit back and think.

Comment about the beer can is also something an ANTI would categorize us hunters in, thanks for helping them with the stereo type. You were not there, but you just had to slip that in there.

I could go on but hopefully you got the message, think sometimes before you post. A lot of people read these forums, and snide comments make others not want to post about their situation....

I wounder if that bull always had a 3rd antler? Or if it was something new this year? By the way the skull looks, I'd figure the bull has re grown a 3rd antler his whole life. Elk are tough, I would keep shoot'en till I knew he was down for good! Don't want them tasty vittles go'en to waste!

what the hell is the matter with everyone this guy may be the best shot in the world. For some reason he had to lay on his back and put his elbows on his knees and he still killed this bull at 300 yards. I would like to see anyone else make that shot.   :chuckle:
Lead em if they're running.

That's why I just post pics and bare bones stories, not that I've done anything illegal or unethical, but people on this site tend to armchair hunt a lot.

In the brushy, rainy, crowded western washington you better keep shooting as fast as you can until the bull stops moving.   I've had many one shot kills and I've also had one travel for 250 yards before a 4th shot behind the shoulder from a .300 win mag finally dropped it.  Then there was "Old Ironsides" three years ago - 8 shots ( yes 8 ! ) from a .338 Win Mag before it dropped - all less than 100 yards and most were well placed.   Sure it "probably" would of expired soon from any of the shots but maybe at the bottom of a 1/2 mile canyon or at another hunters feet with their tag on it.    Just about the time you think you have the ultimate gun/bullet combo you will run into an "Old Ironsides" that forces you to rewrite the rulebook.
