old school ruger m77 22-250 buy or not to buy

Most of those on gunbroker hadn't sold yet, a guy I know sold his last year for 750.  They seem kind of high but people are buying them.

I bought a regular barreled Ruger 77 22-250 with 6x Redfield about 5 years ago for $250. I bought a Stainless M77MKII 338 with a Bell&Carlson stock 2 years ago for 325 no scope. You can find a lot better deals out there if you look around.

Sorry Redfield isn't for sale. It's a fine crosshair wideview, perfect for longer range yotes and chucks.

If it is all in perfect condition like you said  --  It is probably worth $800.  Not a great deal but what its worth.  The rifle in perfect condition is worth $400 minimum, probably more.  The scope is worth $350.  The bipod is worth the $50.

OK, the scope is easy to price. $300+ used.  If that scope is virtually brand new, Lets see, um, it's more than that new.

Without scope and mounts, the rifle is easily worth $300 as a barreled action or with stock.

One thing to remember with the varmint chambered tang safetied Ruger 77's (non Mark II) is that it would/should have the factory Ruger Varmint trigger which is very desirable. -A factory trigger as good or better than a Jared/Timney sporter or competition trigger. Well machined and Very adjustable. No gunsmith required.  (there was a recall on these triggers for a set screw but the whole trigger was discontinued for legal BS. -Your average Joe Blow should not have an adjustable trigger because they're too stupid to be fooling with things. 'Jut my opinion'.)

Factor in whatever bases/rings/scope mount is included. Sun shade on that scope? Any pillar/glass bedding done to the stock/action?

The walnut stocks on the varminter guns usually had a bit better tiger striping or other grain to them.

The bipod is worth something...

Ultimately the rest of the price is determined by condition of the wood, bluing, chamber/throat/rifling.

I do feel that $600 is a good deal if everything is as I highlight and the bluing/wood are 98% great condition. $700 could be very fair, and $800 would be toward the high end.  (Think of Kelly Blue Book adding up the options to determine used car value)  

If you have option to have a smith look at the chamber/throat/rifling with a bore scope and validate head space setting, and they all check out, -along with a test fire, then I would think less than $700 would be fair. If he won't honor the original $600 that he listed earlier on.. TELL HIM TO PACK SAND just for principal.

I will add though.. You can't build one for that price. If you know it's a proven tack driver.. Must also factor that in. When buying a new one, that's not a given. Within any brand, there's always a few lame ducks.

The scope is a $350 scope on ebay right now so not a bad deal if the gun shoots good.
