IMO you can't go wrong with T/C no matter which one you choose,I'm not sure what the diff is between the G-2  and the pro hunter but I have the encore chambered in 7mm rem mag and I love mine, I do know that the pro hunter barell's will fit on the encore, but not sure on the G-2. I say buy the pro hunter with a 28" barell

If you want it for elk, get the ProHunter. The G2 is just an updated Contender, so your caliber selection is more limited. A rule of thumb that I use on the Contenders/G2 calibers is that if you can safely run it through a lever gun, you can use in it the Conteder/G2. The Encore ProHunter opens up your options to almost anything that's safe for a bolt gun. Except some of the fat cased, high pressure rounds like the Ultra or Weatherby mags.

Don't worry about the 28" barrel. The rifle will be about the same length as a 24" barreled bolt gun. Hope this helps.

You can get standard Encore barrels 24"-26" barrels to go on your Pro hunter frame. I've played the Encore- Contender game before, it's a lot of fun buying different barrels. Personaly I would buy your frame, and then buy a used barrel of your choice.

i have the encore with a 28" barrel and it's a couple inches shorter overall than my browning a-bolt with a 24" barrel. i don't know if you can get a t/c barreled for a short mag either.
