Anyone ever use or know anything about Scotts Taxidermy in Colville. Looks like he has real fair prices for full body bobcat mount.

Thanks

Cheap prices usually get you what you pay for, but not always. Go look at his work in person . That should tell you if the cheap price is better than a more expensive one. Bobcats are one of the toughest gritters to mount and make look good.

There's Fusons near spokane. You can look at my Bobby rug he did and see if it's good enough. or call him and maybe he could send some pics of work he's done. I'm not sure what a full body mount would run but I'd be very wary of doing a full body on a Bobcat and using the cheapest Taxi i could find. Like others have said, apparently they're difficult to do and I've seen some with very strange looking eyes. Anyways pm me if interested.

look at the eyes!!!!!

:yeah:
Nothing worse than having a cross eyed kitty staring at you.
I had 2 done by the same taxi, 1 rug looked great, the other a pedestal was not good and the taxi was not pleased that i wanted it fixed.
Charlies cat mounts look great, might be worth the trip over for something that you will have displayed for years..

He did a mount for me and the basework came apart within the first month of owning it...like total self destruction.  I re-did it myself.  The taxidermy portion of the animal was quality.

KEY WORD IN THAT SENTENCE ....... FAIR........                  Nothing about CHEAP!!!!!!

Wa, the best thing that you can do, is to go there and look at his work personally, as mentioned eyes are a crutcial part of the mount, if they look bad then the entire mount looks bad.   I would also if you check on hair patterns and over all appearance of mount. On mammal like that if you do not take the time and really get after them with a brush and get them all fluffed out then they look like a wet dog....

Wish you the best of luck in finding a FAIR priced taxidermist over there....

Facial expression and feet on cats are phenomenally hard.  Its a talent that some folks with otherwise awesome talent may not get the grasp of.  Asking for experience is a good start to look for a taxidermist.  Most of the time the only person more critical that a good taxidermist themselves is a client.  Remember that and weigh opinions according to such.

What you can get without having an empty freezer and too much time on your hands to hunt.  If your freezer is full and you don't have time to take the wife to dinner, then you aren't charging enough.

I've got several buddies that have had mounts done by Scott's and they have all been quality work at reasonable prices with a quick turn around.  I would not be afraid to use him.  :twocents:

Ya at $495 that is a cheap lifesized  bobcat. At that pricing there is no profit to the company unles it is thrown together in a half a day. Heck, that wont even make wages for the day. Fair price for a lifesize would be in that 7-900 range for descent to good work with no mods and simple habitat. No wkeep in mind thats not saying that a 495 dollar price wont get you good work. Excellent price for descent to good work would be in that 500 dollar range. You can find Lifesized bobcat prices from $350 on up to $1500 or even more. There is so much that can hike a price up, like base, habitat, modifacations etc. All that has to get factored into a price also.

Bottom line, check out the work and take referance photos of some  live bobcats with you to compare , thats about the best way to see the differances . If you like the work they are putting out, go for it. Cant judge a Taxi on his prices.

He must be hurting.....the mount he did for me back a dozen years ago was $750 plus tax.  His turnaround was amazingly quick.
