First Timer bowhunting for Turkeys?????? Advice????

Hey Guys,

I have been an avid Bowhunter for Elk and Deer for the past 24 years in WA. I would really like to get out and do a little Turkey Hunting in the spring. For someone who has never harvested a Turkey, or really even gone Turkey hunting is it unreasonable to think that I could have a crack at one with my bow? Does anyone have any advice as to where would be a good place for me to start hunting them in this state. Just to see one would be awesome.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

1-how far do you want to drive?

2-do you have a ground blind or do you want to try to get drawn on 1 without a blind?

Bow isn't much harder than a shotgun from my experience (depending on the blind)..... unless you're using guillotines ;-)

I am a Trad Bowhunter, and have been trying to get a Turkey for a couple years.
I told my friend who wanted to lend me a shotgun that when I started missing turkeys I would think about it.
Last year I almost got a shot......
Use what you like to use and you will have more fun !
(I am hunting Easterns near my home)
If you travel to Stevens, or Ferry Co. you will see more turkeys than you can throw a stick at !

i like the bull heads from magnus have used the guilotines but i like the bull heads better fly great and work great. as far as a place to hunt there is a good turkey poulation i hunt mainly private ground so i don't have any place on public that i can sugest. also if you use a broadhead there is only a few good shots on a turkey vitals head or break them for broadheads allot like to shoot for the wing butt and that can break them and get vitals as well depending on the angle but i prefer the top of the leg break the leg and hip and with a big broadhead you will get vitals a turkey cannot fly if it can't push off the ground and that is a very deadly shot on them has worked well. next like said a ground blind is a  must for me when bowhunting for them that is the main diffrence between gun and bow wear black clothing to blend in and sit back from the window a bit it is very very hard to draw a bow without a blind and not get busted hope this helps.

Hey Brain good luck on your hunt.I killed a hen during the late season with my recurve north of Spokane.It was a heck of a hunt with many opportunities every day.The spring hunt is cool because you can call them in.My friend says it's like elk hunting except you don't have to worry about the wind.The best advise I can give is to get out and do it.You will have a blast!

Nice pic. Did you shoot from a ground blind or draw in the open? I just wanna hunt in an area that gives me the best chance to see one of them birds. I will worry about shootin um once I solve that one.

I shot that bird in the open.I don't have a blind.I like to hunt in the timber so I can have a better chance to draw my bow.The tough part for me is that the turkeys never seen to stop moving.As far as seeing turkey you can't go wrong around Spokane.

I found some land that was 'hunting with written permission'. Although I called too late to get permission, I did meet the ranch foreman who said the guys who hunt turkeys on the ranch work as teams, with the shooter using guilotines and in a tree stand, while the caller was on the ground.
