Hunting Leases BEWARE!
« on: January 20, 2008, 02:24:06 PM »
Watch out for land leases by a guy calling himself Habitats Northwest. I leased with him and had a terrible experience. Nothing was as advertised. access was limited by unannounced events on the land, water and birds never materialized. Make sure you check with neighbors and others in the area before believing what you are told. I blew a grand basically for nothing. Lots of time building blinds, doing conservation projects and then never really being able to hunt. The call not too long after I paid in full telling me I couldn't hunt opening weekend because he forgot his wife was giving hayrides should have tipped me off immediately!

That sucks.

I have heard of companies that for a fee will help you with your hunting lease. They are mostly for land owners with contracts insurance etc but a google search seemed to turn up some free resources that you may be able to use next time.

What area was this guy in?

Can you file a complaint with the BBB against him?  Wonder if somehow you can get an investigation for scamming started on this dude :dunno:

Definitely stay away from this guy. He just sent me an e-mail today saying I could have the last day of hunting tomorrow since he had a great day today (the 30th) and bagged 3 birds. He sent pictures dated today. How can he sit on a board for WDFW and not even know the season end date? What a piece of work! Of course as you all know waterfowl here in WA ended the 27th!
