Camo Wrap
« on: January 06, 2010, 01:51:13 PM »
Alright guys (and gals), anyone have any experience with camo wrapping a gun?  I want to do it to my shotgun for two reasons....to water proof it and, most importantly, i think it looks cool!

Should i attempt this myself? take it somewhere to have it done? send it off to be professionally dipped?

Anyone info would be greatly appreciated......thanks

Rudy

I've used it.  Cheap way of applying camo.  Each time that I return from the woods, I remove the tape (it can be reapplied) and wipe down the barrel, so I don't get any rust/moisture issues.

A buddy used that stuff once, he left it on for a couple weeks after his hunt and his barrel had rusted under the tape. I'm with Jack, have it dipped, its not very expensive.

Nice, never heard of this process before.  What is if any corrosion resistance of this stuff?  Makes a beautiful camo pattern, but are you getting any increase in rust prevention?

I currently do firearms in Alumahide II  baked epoxy.  Both for camo appearance and rust prevention.  I am looking at doing my first couple guns with Dura Coat to compare quality.  However if this technique works as well for corrosion resistance I might just pay to have them do my guns and get out of doing it myself, as it is time consuming and the pattern is of lower quality.

P.S.  The camo wraps although cheap and easy, will hold mosture in against the metal, They should be removed after the hunt to avoid rust problems on your firearm.  While not to much of a problem on the East Side, its a killer on the wet side.
Thanks

All metal gets primer, base coat, then dipped,2 coats of flat clear.
We use the same process that the factories do but our dip tanks are manual.
Here is a picture of the WSP sniper rifles we did.

Does the gun need to be dismanteled or do you do it before dipping and reassemble?

All guns, bows need to be dismantled before we start work on them we do not take them apart or do reassembly.
