new to AR's

i dont know a whole lot about the AR's but i do know i want one. i found this one -

would it be a good buy? im really only looking to get a base model and upgrade from there when i get money.  its a got a bull barrel which im told last longer?  or can someone steer me in the right direction to an affordable AR that might be better? id use it mainly for coyote and such. and id like to get one soon incase they get banned.  thanks

If your thinking of a calling rifle I'd go as light as possible. I made the mistake of buying my first AR with a big heavy bull barrel and sold it within a year. hard to shoot well offhand and too heavy to lug around. Light barrels will last, get what you like. Also short barrels are ear poppers. I'd start at 20" for a calling rifle unless you wear ear protection while you hunt.

Whatever you buy you'll love. AR's have big time cool factor. I'm really falling in love with mine this year.

I have that very ar. Go to buds guns it's $643. It a great calling gun, it's quick handling not to heavy but loud as hell. Mine will shoot 1/2moa pretty easy. It's 9lb9oz with scope an loaded mag.

im not TOO worried about weight, unless it was my deer rifle. im not going to be doing much, if any, hiking with it. i see alot of them with the carry handle on them. are they removable? i seen 1 or 2 descriptions that say removable handle..

I've also got the K16, but with collapsible stock. Got it slightly used for $630 on gunbroker.  Really like it. Stainless steel bull barrel.  You can find them on GB for under $700.

Some come with a fixed carry handle, meaning it is made as part of the upper receiver. Others are commonly referred to as the flattop model and may have the detachable carry handle already with it. Others do not include the detachable carry handle in which case you will need to mount some type of optic or iron sights to it.

Yeah Id get a flat top so you can put a scope or other optic on it and still have iron sights if you want them.

I bought this exact model last year only with the collapsible stock. Love the gun, just wish i got to shoot it more. My advice is this... stay away from cheap dirty burning ammo. I had a lot of problems when i first got it b/c i was shooting crap Russian ammo that the primers kept coming out of and getting lodged in the safety/trigger group.

Well, don't fret, it's very easy to swap out recvr's. Just purchase a stripped upper and take it apart and install the new fllattop.

My opinion here with AR's is a bit frowned upon by other "AR" owners.  so i'll keep my   to myself for right now.

First thing you need to ask yourself:  What is the purpose of this AR?
-SHTF?
-Home Defense (dont reccomend that)
-Putting holes in paper (how tight do you want those groups)
-What is your budget
-Ever thought of building your first.....I built my first AR and you can never replace the feeling of building your first.

ETA:  Let me clarify.  For your first AR, your budget dictates EVERYTHING.  just remember, you get what you pay for.  I have owned AR's from just about every manf. out there with the exception of the new ruger (wouldnt touch it anyways) and the S&W.  I have owned Oly's, RRA's, DPMS's, Noveskes, LaRue's, LMT's, Bravo Co machine, P.O.F.'s etc. and a Sig which was promtly sold.
