What 3D target is your favorite?
« on: January 07, 2010, 12:16:50 PM »
So which target is your favorite,  list your top 3 that you like to see when you go to a 3D shoot.  Also in your honest opinion do you like more realistic targets such as deer, turkey, moose etc... or do you like some of the others such as the Velociraptor,  mosquito,  and others like that?  Just gathering some ideas for our next purchases for the Whidbey Bowmen and of course in regards of what most like for when we set up our shoots.  Thanks for the inputs!

i love realistic targets. and anything other then deer, lots of 3'ds have an over abundance of deer and turkey or pigs. im assuming because they are cheap. mix it up with some elk. a goat or two. maybe a sheep or moose. for gods sake no turkeys.!. and maybe if your bold, a granola eating hippie.

I've been to Bone's house and was not surprised thats his favorite, that is a picture of his personal target!  Although the grouping didn't look quite that good...... ;)
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.

If your worried about a picture perfect shot on a coyote or wolf you need your head examined.  :IBCOOL:  If it dies it was a good shot.

I actually was making a point of making that an SSS grouping. LOL  I was pulling a bit to the left and thought thats "perfect" for a nice wolf shot.  :)

I stuck it out in my yard in front of the house and was going to cover it in white lights like my blackbear target for Christmas......well that lasted about 48 hours.  The first morning heading out to the truck and I rounded the corner I about crapped myself in the dark.  The second was a saturday morning and I about ran in to grab a gun as I spotted him out of the corner of my eye. He was promptly moved.

Nice Bone!  Was thinking to add another wolf to our inventory as in our state today it might be very well received as a target!   :IBCOOL:

Hunt4,  we agree 100%,  last night at our monthly meeting we discussed new targets as we are ordering a bunch.  We are going 100% with reinhart,  and that elk as you mentioned is a pain...LOL  Lube up them arrows on that target!  Of course shooting my longbow I don't have as much problems as you guys with "training wheels"...  :chuckle:  See you and hopefully a lot of members here at our shoots this year!  Camping is available without hookups on site and if you want hook ups PM me or email me if you need any other help or info!

im so stoked for this shoot. i agree ease of arrow removal is a must. im shootin a pretty heavy arrow at about 320 fps. some targets will actually melt to my arrow shaft. its not pretty when it happens, then i'm left trying to scratch that crap off my arrow for the rest of the day. cant wait for this.

Also,  there is another shoot at Silver Arrow (Mt Vernor) the week before to get you in the mood!  They also have an awesome setup there.  I love this time of year!   :IBCOOL:

My favorites are:
Bedded Ram
Monster Muley
Crouching Cougar

I like those not because I shoot them well, but they are cool to look at.  However, I'm pretty sure those are all McKenzies.

i gotta agree with what was said earlier about pulling arrows out. i shot a target at Todd_ID's house that took the 3 of us and a small boy to get the arrow out.

And that was a high end Mckenzie HD foam body.  If you weren't so frickin' tough to pull the 140# draw weight, then it wouldn't have been a problem!  All joking aside, the only issue we had was that we didn't lube the shafts before we shot that day...  Otherwise, it would have been a different story.

It is available at any archery shop... some real good ones out there.  Or you can just use a bar of ivory soap..... even with reinharts,  if you are shooting one of them bows with training wheels  :chuckle: you should always keep your shaft (arrows) lubed.   :twocents:

i've since heard of doing that. i didn't know about lubing them at the time. i guess my new concern would be hanging on to them with the lube on them.
