Swakane Whitetail

Wouldn't it be nice if the wolves only had a taste for whitetail.

They should open all 200 series units to any whitetail any tag. they'll drive the mule deer outta dodge.

Well, on it's face that would make sense.  But you forgot to figure in the one question that must always be asked before implementing any game managment program in Washington State....

And that, ladies and gentlemen is why it will never be implemented...

Very true. They could make the hunt a B-tag type option, that would raise some serious dough.  The westward advancement of the whitetail is a problem all mule deer hunters will soon have to face, and I have a feeling we will be wishing that something had been done earlier.

There have been random whitetails in Chelan county for decades.  I have seen and heard of a them out of Leavenworth for the last 30+ years.  My great uncle killed one near Cashmere back in the early 70's.  I have a really nice shed antler I found about 5-6 years ago.  They for some reason have never really taken off like they say they will.

There are at least two monster whitetail in the "general area" .

When did you see them last?  There were a couple seen in the Derby canyon area this past late fall.  Derby is on the opposite side of Chumstick Mtn. from Swakane  My cousin, who has lived in the Ardenvoir Valley 64 years, says there are more and more W. tail being seen along the Entiat River from the mouth all the way to Preston creek.  If they get established in this area it will be devastating for the Mule deer because of winter range alone

   Very true and also seemed to be taking hold in the 80's but then very limited again in the 90's

I've been up that way several times in Dec. seen some excellent muleys but sure would've liked seeing those w.tail--dang-it

from what Ive learned on here all those deer around that white tail are actually blacktails, should that be worry some?

Seem to be more and more moose sightings the last 5 years or so in Chelan county also.

  Definitely have been more Moose seen in that area the last 10 or so years.  I would presume the Wolf aren't far behind

I've heard rumors that the offspring of a blacktail and a whitetail are sterile?

I saw a whitetail buck in the Entiat back in 04. Have not seen one since however

Saw almost the same exact scene while muzzleloading in Douglas county last September.  A small whitetail buck hanging with a bunch of mulie does and small bucks.  He was eventually taken during the general rifle season.

  There are still several scattered whiteys in Douglas County.  One individual doe has had at least 3 different fawns over the last few years that appear to be pure whitetails.  Never saw a buck in that area though.

Anyone see any blacktail traits in any of the deer as far as the Swakane Wildlife Area?
